A few weeks back I called Bushnell about my game camera. They looked up the Mod, Ser no. and date code and was told it was in warranty and to send it back. (17.00) Weeks later I get a letter saying it would cost $147.00 to repair and it's older then two years old. NOT!
I explained the date code that they had in front of them and they just continued to LIE. I finally got it back and here is a picture of the date code.
Y13 - M01 - D16. Do they think I can't read numbers.

If you have the sales receipt, send them a copy .. maybe with an explanation on your lawyer's letterhead. ;)

You know when you bought it better than they do. The manufactured date is not the sales date.

What does date of manufacture have to do with warranty? Warranty starts at purchase.

really whats the problem? alot of companies go by the manufacturing date to determine age of an item.

not nit picking but its kinda like the guy imet at the store the other day, was trying to return a bike he bought 2 years ago because the tire went flat.

It would seem to me that if purchased new, the date of purchase and not the date of manufacture would determine warranty status.

I had my own Bushnell experience a few years ago. I had one of their "Recoil Proof" pistol scopes on an Encore handgun in 460 S&W Magnum or maybe it was a 500 S&W Magnum. In any case, the scope broke and Bushness refused to honor the lifetime warranty saying the scope had been abused.

How was it abused? By being mounted on a handgun? While I will admit what I used it on subjected it to extreme conditions, if they put a lifetime warranty on a handgun scope, they should either mention cartridge exclusions or honor their warranty for all handguns. I also broke a couple of Thompson/Center scopes each of which was replaced with a new scope with the last one being of higher grade as they were probably hoping I couldn't break that one. I've also had some Leupold handgun scopes go on the flitz and Leupold repaired them promptly with no complaining.

The date is 10-03-16....if you zoom in on it you can easily see the faint (straight sides) of the zero.

Only question that remains is the warranty period. Did it start with the manufacture date or at time of purchase?

SFAIK, date of purchase controls. However, proof of purchase--with date--is the condition for all the warranties I've ever read. It helps to have filled out and mailed in the warranty card which is usually with the in-the-box paperwork.

I bought a brand new pair of bushnell binos. The first time out, the right eye cup fell off rendering these binos into a monocular. I called Bushnell about the situation when I got back from my trip. The lady on the phone told me that "that isn't right" and to send them back under warranty. She gave me the address and then told me to include a check for $15 for postage and handling. I asked if I heard her correct. $8 for me to ship these brand new binos to you, and then $15 for you to "warranty" them and ship back to me? She confirmed. I told her "never mind".
Bushnell is a crappy company! I will buy their crap no more!

There is no requirement for proof of purchase or date of purchase with Leupold's scopes. Similarly, regarding the Thompson/Center scope referenced above, I had bought it used on eBay AND in my letter to Thompson/Center that accompanied it for repair, I mentioned that. Thompson/Center still honored the warranty.
