I've popped in and out for a few years now. I've been a hunter, shooter, handloader and bullet caster since being taught these crafts by my Daddy back in the '60's.
I decided to put in for membership after an archery forum I belong to just lost all semblance of respect among members and posts. This site always seems to maintain integrity and respect even in differences of opinion holding true to taking "the high road".
I look forward to joining the brotherhood and hopefully making contributing posts.

Identify an S&W 38 Special CTG

Hello, new guy here.
Not really a gun collector but I have acquired a few pieces.
I am looking for help identifying an S&W 38 CTG, serial 522229. I have found some "info" online but some of it seems to conflict.

Help please?
Thanx.

arkielad loves old weapons. New Here!

What a great website. I'm 47 and live in SWLittle Rock, Arkansas where a pistol under the bed is almost mandatory. I prefer to keep a LEGAL sawed=off .12 Browning Auto 5 for Home Defense only, under my bed. I also build blackpowder rifles from scratch, as well as knives. My family homesteaded on the Cossatot river in Wickes, Arkansas over 200 years ago. I'm proud to be a hillbilly. I also love hunting squirrel in the frigid weather using a hawken-style .32 cal blackpowder rifle with no scope. THAT, my friends, is fun! Nice to meet you all. Go Hawgs!!!

Hello,

A little about myself... Veteran of the USAF. Did four years active duty after high school. Took a thirteen year break in service then 911 happened. I joined a local Air National Guard unit and deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq in 2003. Returned to work as a contractor and spent over 3 1/2 years in Iraq and various Middle East countries.

I now own and operate a small tactical firearms and tactical gear company. We are registered with the U.S. Gov't to do business, and actively develop and promote my companies website.

Newbie here... Used to have a fair collection of mostly Ruger weapons, mini-14 22-223, a 357 magnum, and a 44 magnum long barrel "dirty harry"... Then came my three boys! Instead of buying a safe, I sold them... Boys noiw grown, I'm retired, and inherited a FN Herstal 9mm High-Power, brought back from Europe after WWII. Trying to decide whether to keep it, or sell it... Ran across this forum and thought it would be a good place to do some reading!

Folks,

I have been around awhile. I have been tied to O2 tanks for the last 6 yrs.. So, I don't get around much anymore. Still, I have not lost my interest in all rifles, pistols and revolvers. However, I have a lot to learn and that is why I am here.

Hi!

I'm Joe and live in the Southwestern high desert of New Mexico, about 50 to 100 miles from the nearest stoplight, depending on the direction I drive.

I'm far on the north side of age 60, and have been owning, enjoying and shooting guns since I was shorter than my single shot 20 gage shotgun. I have a wide range of rifles, pistols, revolvers, shotguns, muzzle-loaders and muzzle-loading cannon of my own making, and never seem to be able to resolve to get rid of any of them except to pass them to the next generation.

I am a life member of NRA, an unashamed supporter of the 2nd amendment, have brought a lot of young shooters into the fold, and believe that where it is legal, one of the best ways to make folks comfortable with gun ownership is to practice open carry and behave like a responsible adult while doing so.

I have run across this forum several times over the years while researching one thing and another online, and have always been struck by the quality of the rhetoric in terms of being both restrained and informative, and will strive to maintain that tradition.....Thanks for a quality venue.......Joe

New Guy checking in from NJ

New to this forum, Not new to firearms, Was introduced to shooting by my Dad at 8 years old(looong time ago)
I own Sig Handguns, A couple revolvers. 3 12Ga O/U's A few other shotguns and A couple rifles.
I found the forum when searching reloading resources. I've started reloading again after about 25 years of not doing it.
Along with shooting we spend as much time on the road as possible with our RV.
Plus raising our 6 YO Grandson. He's been with us since he was born.

Welcome! I lived and shot in NJ for 40 years before moving out at long last. Most of the good gunshops are gone there now, Rays, Leslie Edelmans, etc. But there are a few places still around. I think I still hold my Old Bridge range card someplace, and used to compete at Shongum, Hopatcong, and Cherry Ridge. Enjoy the forums!

Sometimes I miss some aspects of Jersey. You know, the food was good, and the culture was pretty cool too.

Welcome to the forum

New member here

Hello everyone, I just signed up about thirty seconds ago. I've been a forum lurker here for almost two years now, and finally found myself in a situation where I just want to vent about my guns.

Here's the scoop- I just bought a good ol' Saturday night special .25 auto pocket popper by Tanfoglio, and I took it to the range, and out of 36 shots it only had one FTF. I picked up this bad boy for a cool one hundred flat private sale with a simple bill. The problem is, my dumb ass just broke one of the feed lips on my only magazine, so I now have a single shot .25 ACP pistol until my new mag comes in from Numrich which I ordered yesterday. I have never dealt with this company before. I called them on the phone twice and talked to two different people, so I'm not worried. They told me to wait ten days then see if I have everything and if it works. I'm not worried, as it's only been one day, but what have been your experiences with this company? I ended up staying away from new mags from Triple K because of all the negative reviews and the D- Better Business Bureau rating. Maybe I'm just being judgmental, IDK.

Another welcome, Kirk. Another New Jersey escapee here. My parents stole away from Ridgewood in the late 1940's. We still visit cousins in Montclair, Midland Park and Sussex.

All of us still love New Jersey at heart. We just can't live there anymore.

I'm happy for you and the 6 year old grandchild. There is nothing better than that.

Hello!
Longtime lurker, finally hit the button to Join up.
I've been into firearms since my dad took me duck hunting at age 8. The combination of Father/son bonding time with the dog and the very adult responsibility to be trusted with a live firearm stuck with me.
My Dad made me a deal; successfully pass youth hunter safety and he'll buy me my first shotgun. Well, it's 21 years later I still have my Beretta AL 390 Silver Mallard in 20 Ga.
Being raised in Southern California certainly slanted my thoughts on what fun firearms could be. Waiting periods on firearms purchases, so-called cooldown periods between purchases, bullet buttons, chintzy magazine limits, etc all vanished once my wife and I packed up and trucked out to Iowa.
Purchasing my first handgun in IA by showing my handgun permit, filling out a Easy-peasy form and the forfeiture of cashola and ***BAM*** out the door with my gun. Blew my hair back that's for sure.
I like my polymer wonder pistols ( Glock, S&W M&P, etc), but the feel of Wood and carefully wrought Steel that a 1911 gave me that first time was just like the 'Just turned 16 and all alone with my girl for the first time ever' feeling.
That might sound crude, but there's just something about a precision piece of firearms tech that just cannot be described otherwise.
The last couple years has seen me gravitate to wheel guns of the vintage S&W variety.
A no-dash Model 19, No dash Model 49. Man oh man.
I live to Eat. And Shoot.
After "The Great Ammo Purge of 2012", I like many other red blooded Americans dove into the realm of reloading.
I got myself a blue machine and started reloading so as i could continue to have fun at my local range. I suppose i really havent stopped with my reloading much. I think i spend more time and money adding to my reloading tools and supplies then I have firearms.
I'm definitely still learning, and i expect that won't change for a long time to come. So many guns, so few dollars to buy them all with.
My name is Justin and I am an addict.

Hello and thanks for letting me join!

I am interested in just about everything here in NC. I do not shoot much, mostly just collect odds and ends. I was just wanting to comment on something I saw online on Ebay. Can you believe that these folks are selling caps from SEAL Team 3 Sniper Element Charlie Company for over $100.00. I just wanted to tell you folks that I bought one from a guy on Bonanza.com and it was the best in color, the right font, everything was perfect and I got it within a couple of days too. Don's get ripped off. Thanks.

New Member from California

Hello. I've been a guest on this forum many times, but of course as a guest I could never see the pictures, so I finally joined up. Although I hunt, target shoot, and have a CCW permit, I still consider myself a novice shooter. Looking forward to learning from the community.

Hi, I am a new member. I live in North Carolina. I grew up in a family deeply rooted in shooting sports and hunting. I mainly just target shoot now. I love all types of guns. I shoot handguns, rifles, shotguns and black powder rifles as well. Lately I have taken an interest in long range shooting and want to build a custom long range rifle.
