What do you guys think of the option of open carrying a
fixed blade knife? I this would be perhaps a more practical option
than OCing a handgun and perhaps a more effective defense than
a folding knife some of which are of dubious value in a fight and quite slow to
deploy. Concealed carry...
I realize the vast majority of THR members haven't shot a cap and ball pistol, but I am curious how confident would you be in a self defense situation with say for example a cap n ball revolver versus a modern pistol assuming the situation is not a drawn out gunfight which the vast majority of...
...a potential robbery. I think the individual(s?) may be messing with me since they may have seen me a few times out on the porch this makes them an *******s but not criminals. I haven't had any confrontations with the individual or individuals my plan is to avoid them, but if they pull into...

Sorry Ruger! What do you all think? Fast follow up shots, but the cartridge lacks
alot of stopping power compared to others, it also has an uncanny resemblence to the luger in general shape:D. I guess what I am asking is would you feel "undergunned"?
I have always loved the look of the Luger, the trigger and the ergonomics of the grip possibly the best of any pistol ever made. I was thinking it might be a good sidearm for self defense what do you think? Plus its a piece of history.
If we as civilians are supposed to be the true militia of our states shoudn't we have access to full auto? The ban on anything new after 86' is obviously intended to phase it out completely out of private hands except for the extremly rich.
I was browsing some of the weapons laws in Virginia and apparently
blackjacks, brass knuckles and "bowie knives"are completely illegal in Virginia to carry concealed! What knives are Virginia residents allowed to carry concealed without a CCW permit? Would a fixed blade about 4 inches in length...
Would anyone here consider that for an HD weapon, if a good firearm was not available? How does a a crossbow arrow(bolt?) COM compare to say 9mm hollowpoint from a pistol COM?
I know many people here will laugh at the idea, and I know
it isn't ideal for the task, but would it work reasonably well?
It does have some advantages, zero recoil, the sound doesn't disorient you...
I know that works both ways, fast follow up shots and you don't have to worry much about...
How much actual "takedown" power does magnum buckshot(three inch) specificaly 12 Gauge buckshot give over regular buckshot(2, 3/4 inch)? The second question is do you think the extra punch is worth it in regards to the extra recoil and lower capacity in pump shotguns and auto shotguns?
I was wondering whether you guys believe whether there is a
significant performance difference between the guns of the two
different manufacturers especialy regarding reliability, or whether the preference boils down to brand loyalty or something else as frivolous? I already made my decision I...
I was wondering at what point, a person is legally considered too mentally unstable to purchase a firearm? I know for most places being commited to a mental hospital is the criteria, but do some states or the feds consider you ineligable for simply taking an SSRI? Has anyone here had problems...
I was reading the owners manuel and it said you are supposed to push upward on the action bar lock when loading the firearm(pushing the fore end forward)...why? I asume there is some safety principle involved. I thought push on the action bar lock was only in order to unload the gun....
I am a...
Well I know there is no such thing truly as a best rifle just good ones though it sure does seem that way sometimes. I shot my first deer with one chambered in .308, and I love just about everything about it, the simplicity and quality of the rifle speaks to me, in my opinion bolt action rifles...
I recently watched an episode of Lock n' Load, and Lee Ermey tested a Hornady .308 fragmenting round in a M14 I think on a large piece of pork or beef(and earlier ballistic gell) and the results were extremely impressive to me at least the entire hunk of meat seemed to explode in all directions...
It seems that some members here seem to imply that if you have no formal training then you are not a very effective home defender, but how much does this training come into play into a realistic HD scenario? It would seem me that if these conditions are met the average man who is determined to...
http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2008/offenses/property_crime/burglary.html
In 2008 there were 2,222,196 burgleries commited, thats about 2 burglaries per about 330 people, given the likely population of the U.S., and those are the ones cops know about, granted though I suspect many of these...
On a pump shotgun(Remington 870), there is a little bit of looseness between the barrel and the case(?) sliding when the gun is pointed down or up, about half a centimeter maybe less but certainly noticeable is that normal and safe? The gun is new.
