When you first purchase a new BP firearm do you need to break it down and give it a good cleaning? I've noticed that they come somewhat lubed and packaged well. My purchase was a urberti 58 in .44cal. Any opinions would be greatly welcomed...thank y'all in advance. This lady loves to shoot! BP Tess
Well, speaking of being laughed at...try being a woman and walk out on the range with all of my BP gear, set up and have a 5 yr old right there by my side watching Mom shoot her 58 urberti. That draws alot of attention...maybe laughts at first, but after I load up and fire that first cylinder...
Nice pics y'all. Thanks "Rifle" on those last ones. The darker Brown really gives off a nice look. I think I may have to buy more guns so I can do different finishes to them!:D Decisions...decisions...
What happens to the inside of the barrel during these processes? I'm assuming that rust will also form inside there too! Should you plug up the barrel somehow or just keep brushing the rust out between dippings.
Thanks so much for clearing things up for me. At first, I thought the aging process was just adding some color to the gun and rubbing some of it off where it may be worn from holster use, etc. I didn't realize you were actually rusting the gun. I always thought when rust started on something it...
Thanks for all the replies. Ferrett that is the "look" I want on my remmies. I'd like to try the heating method that mykeal used on his guns. Doesn't seem too hard...just some good prep work. Nice lookin' guns! Teresa
Duncan had posted a pic of one for me a while back that was similar to the photo here and I purchased it for around 12 bucks I think. Then I was introduced to a loading stand for my cylinders from Dixie...http://www.dixiegun.com/ I use them both, just depends on my mood when I'm shootin. If I...
Thanks...I guess "aging" is the term I'm looking for. I want it to look used and a some type of brown color. I just don't want to ruin my gun and many of yours look so nice after this process. By the way...nice pics so far!
Come on guys, does anyone have some tips on this subject? Or at least some sorces for me to pry in. I've seen some pics on here before of some nice work y'all have done on your firearms. Just interested on how you went about doing it. BP Tess:)
Howdy y'all! I'd like to see some pics of your guns after you've antiqued or browned the barrels and how you did it. I may want to try it on my remmies. I'll bet they look real perdy! There's so much knowlege here and y'all have been so helpful...this is an awesome forum! Post those pics! Teresa:D
Thanks for the#. I'll be gettin' back with ya soon. Was out of town for the weekend so I'll be makin' that call soon and i'll let ya know how they worked.THX Teresa:D
Thanks for the #, I think I will try them before I make a total mess of the kitchen. I've used the lubed wads before. I want to see if there's much difference with these pills. Teresa;)
Hey, those are some nifty lookin' pills. Are you takin' orders? I would be interested in buying some from you ifin' they are for sale! Please let me know! Teresa:)
Just bought another 58...an urberti. Noticed alittle taint of rusty color in the barrel. New gun and all, what's the first thing I need to do to get this barrel clean. I ran a clean patch through it when I got it home. That's when I noticed it was just alittle discolored orange. Thanks in...
Great idea guys! I'm planning on going to the Sportsmans Warehouse in Lafayette to get the feel of some of the guns you mentioned. I may not buy here...but I can try a few out. I've never been there but It's the only place close to me that may have a stash of guns to try. Thanks, I'll be back...
I'm still smokin'
I'm on here daily...I just haven't had much to say! I'm learning so much, and now I want to try a muzzleloader. This is so much fun. I'm still trying to decide on a purchase. Some of the ones mentioned here are hard to find. I'm not too sure on a used one. I'm leaning more...
Thank you so much for all the info. You've given me some great ones to pick from. I really love to shoot blackpowder! I'll keep ya posted on my progress.
Thanks, Teresa:D
