I first used Longshot for 147 gr 9mm loads. While I liked it, I thought it was loud (AKA Loudshot) and a little "snappy". I've since switched to CFE Pistol and haven't looked back (but I didn't throw out my Longshot).
I've recently seen HEAVY .357 Magnum bullets for shooting bowling pins, such as the coated 230 gr lead bullets (looks like a super wadcutter) from Bear Creek Supply. Truth be told, I've never tried shooting bowling pins, but you just never know when you might need to.;)
What I haven't seen is...
I would measure your brass (below the bell) after sizing, after expansion and belling, and after seating the bullet. SAAMI range is .4281 - .4321 for a finished cartridge. If your .401 bullet expands the brass larger than that, you may have problems with your cartridges seating. Then measure...
I don't load 10 mm but I had a somewhat similar issue with the FCD with .38 Special using .359" lead bullets. I finally discovered that the throat of the FCD above the crimp ring was smaller than the bullet, causing interference and pushing/pulling the bullet in unpredictable ways. Maybe be...
I use a food dehydrator. I put the brass in plastic 50 round pistol cartridge box liners, neck down, to hold the brass vertical for best draining and fastest drying.
Anywhere from a couple hundred dollars to as much as you want to spend. A $300 Chinese knockoff will print most of what you might want to print, except for high strength/high temperature engineering materials, but expect to have to fiddle with it. They are truly "hobby" machines at that price...
I hope you are wrong.. There are a lot of .35 Rem's out there. If true, however, I'm sure one of the boutique brass manufacturers will pick it up, sort of like the .225 Win.
I learned from the 2013-2015 drought when .35 Rem brass and ammo disappeared and since then I bought enough brass to last me my lifetime. It's a drought now as well but I found there are several brass groups on MeWe and that was where I was buying my brass before this s--t happened. I'm sure...
I reload .35 Rem using coated lead pistol bullets over light charges of Universal (I tried Unique but hate how it feeds in the powder measure). Good source of info is www.gmdr.com/lever/lowveldata.htm. I like the Missouri Bullet Company's 158 gr CRNFP (pistol, not rifle hardness) bullets for...
I use both Longshot and CFE-Pistol in 9mm for higher velocity 147 gr loads and find them pretty equivalent. I prefer CFE-Pistol by a slight edge but like them both in everything I shoot from an M&P Shield to a Ruger PCC. I will say that Longshot earns its nickname of "Loudshot".:)
Slight correction - the FCD crimping plug for the 38 Special/357 Magnum round is, in fact, a roll crimp ring, not a taper crimp ring. If you want to taper crimp with the 38 Special FCD, the easy way is to purchase (actually free plus shipping as a replacement part) a 9mm crimp plug and cut it...
I love my Lee Classic Turret Press and Lee dies. I'm not a fan of the new Safety Prime (I like and use the old round reservoir model), but I know it can be adjusted to work. One thing to emphasize is that while Lee equipment is well designed and well made (almost all the time) it is a basic...
It may be that the nose of your bullet does not fit well in the seater plug. If this happens, the nose can tilt slightly and result in different lengths. There are ways to simply modify the seater plug if you have a big mis-match.
Love the bullet and my load is almost the same - 1.16" OAL and 4.0 gr CFE Pistol w/ CCI SPP. In my M&P Shield it gives about 800 fps, 860 fps in a Ruger SR9 , and 1050 fps in my Ruger PCC. YMMV and these loads are save in my guns and may not be in yours.
I've searched the forum and found some very useful information on the subject but the posts were old enough I didn't think I should post questions to them.
My basic question is powder choice. I use BL-C(2) for .30-06 in my bolt gun and am in the process of transitioning to CFE-223. I'm...
I'm experiencing something I can't explain and I hope someone can help. I'm reloading for both a Remington 7400 and a T/C Compass, both in .30-06. Interestingly, both like almost exactly the same load.
When I shoot the Compass (bolt action), the ejected brass is almost cool to the touch and...
The .38 Special +P HST Micro I have uses a 130 gr bullet - not sure if that is the only load - so maybe a lighter bullet would be better for loading a practice round. I wasn't trying to match the HST load, but a favorite load for me is a 125 gr coated or plated bullet over 5.2 gr HP-38. This...
