I have a rifle that these rings saved the day for me on, they also don't mark up your scope tube and seem immune to scope slipping. You can use them vertical or horizontal to cant in the direction you need. I like them for centering the reticle in you adjustment range so you don't have to run...
I hunt in central and northern Maine and it really gets wicked cold in late Nov to mid Dec. when our season ends. I bought Cabellas MT050 bibs and heavy jacket both insulated with gore tex. Cotton long johns for wicking next to skin with heavy fleece sweats top and bottom, heavy weight chamois...
Meopta makes very good scopes and tracking is excellent, watch for them on sale and you can save some money. They are a worthwhile scope to check out, I've been considering one myself.
Imperial sizing die wax or couple drops of STP on a square piece of old wool hunting sock. Both work great and no dents or stuck cases ever, no waiting to dry and very inexpensive.
All current rifles are Savage, the bolt guns are too easy to customize to my liking and they all started accurate and got better. Nothing I can't do to them outside of lathe work and my best friends a gunsmith with a lathe :) he trues my actions and rechambers, crown's, or rethreads barrels.
I was always a wiz bang lover and chaser....problem is what I liked and sought when I was younger are now standard fare and the constant changing latest thing has continued to move. I currently have cartridges based on the 308 case from midlife build's now and find them pleasant to shoot and...
Well I got a pile of those "wonderful" new lee lockrings :) I would gladly trade them for those old nasty hex lock rings everyone else uses, or maybe gift some unsuspecting reloader with a bag of them.............
I use to neck size only after the initial firing chamber formed it, only takes a couple reloads and you have shoulder fit problems that require FL sizing to fit again. I set the full length die up to just bump the shoulder back and remove the spindle and sizer button. I clean brass and prep it...
I have problems every year and they dig the backyard to pieces finding grubs. Tried all methods and the most scentless one is to have a large tote from Wally world set up and full of water. Set up a havaheart style trap with cat food inside, approach with a large sheet in front of you and cover...
My favorite optics would be Zeiss Conquests and Bushnell 4200-4500 Elites, up here we can hunt 1/2hr before and after rise and set. In heavy overstory (cedar/spruce) it gets dark quicker and the optics of these are appreciated. Both track and hold POI well and have held up well in the rough...
My son has one and it shoots well with less recoil than I expected. I like the 350gr loads and it is very accurate, I'm sure rested and scoped it would be nice to shoot at 100yds. We shoot 50yds unrested and it will keep them on a paper plate. Son is going to carry it this fall for deer and our...
Wow what a difference being out of the loop for 10 years has made on the optics scene, I have studied much and talked to some old contacts that have stayed current (unlike me). I'm sort of sorry I started a thread about a scope, the conquest MC line, that is no longer available. When they say...
Sometimes the snow is just stick to your tread consistency but in the last decade or so I've been using Lacrosse alpha burleys and they seem better than most for self cleaning. They do freeze to the stands kinda bad, must be the insulation (use 1500gr in season to sit longer). I notice less...
That's Great! Sometimes you read something that sticks.....this will be one for me to remember. And what sparkyv said about going down the rabbit hole also rings so true...….I'm a lot farther and deeper in this fun hobby than I ever imagined I would be, and there's always something new to try...
That story had to be about 2004 maybe and people are still impressed with those optics, I looked thru a Z3 swaro the other day and it didn't look better I would have to compare it with the conquest in low light side by side. In the state I hunt in you are allowed 30 min before sunrise to 30 min...
I was in a large gun and equipment retailer looking at what would have been my sixth vari X3 leupold when he said what do you think of the new conquests? Didn't know anything so he pulled one out and handed it to me, walk over and look out the window and see what you think. I took a look and...
The conquests opened my eyes years ago also. Not trying to hijack the thread from the fullfield but that quote so said what I experienced the first time I looked thru one. Now they are priced way up there and they sure aren't being talked about as much, my friend the gunsmith looked thru one of...
I built two deer rifles when I started, one to carry, one for back-up if I fall or bump the scope somehow. They are both the same action and make (Savage) both have short easy to handle bbl & overall lengths, they also both have rifle basix triggers that I love. Both have conquest scopes in...
