Ok, so before contacting Lyman I figured I'd ask here for solutions.
So I recently bought a Lyman digital powder dispenser, the compact Gen 6 unit. Right out of the box, when I try and calibrate it using the supplied 50 gram weight (using the proper procedure, I checked on Youtube to ensure I...
So, I've been running a Leupold Mark 4 2.5-8 for the last few years on my rifle (25-500 m matches), and while it has performed well, I want something new. I was looking at the Vortex Razor HD Gen II 3-18x50 as it has all the features I want, being a FFP reticule, Miliradian adjustments, Zero...
So much this. The quick change barrel system is the strongest point of the rifle IMO, and this feature is being completely unused by Bushmaster/Remington.
I had one for a while, I regret selling it, but needed some cash and wanted a new hunting rifle. I was very happy with the rifle in general. Accuracy was quite good, MOA or close to it with most types of ammo. It was completely reliable (0 failures over about 1000 rounds), no issues with the gas...
Nikons are low to mid range scopes. They are decent scopes, even for the money the Prostaff isn't bad, but they're definitely not high end. For most shooters, they're more than good enough. That doesn't mean they don't fall short when compared to other scopes outside their price range. In...
The glass quality in Nikon scopes are good, not great, but good. Light transmission is relatively good too. Remember too, that the 95%-98% light transmission is per lens element, and not an over all transmission percentage, so if one scope has 12 lens elements, and the other has 10, both at 98%...
I have to disagree with this. Cheap bore sight tools should be thrown in the trash. High quality optical boresighters using expanding arbors get you fairly close to center at 50 yards, and can be an extremely helpful tool.
Vortex has a great warranty, which is good, because I find they often need it. Leupold also has a great warranty, which is also good, but you rarely need to use it.
Yep, 92% light transmission, Multicoat 4 lens coatings. This is what the VX-II series used, and what the Vari-X III's used. The technology for these lens coatings is a little old (used by Leupold since the mid 70's), but provides excellent light transmission for a scope in the VX-1's price...
I can't speak for the 1873 Winchester/Miroku rifles, but I bought an 1886 Short Rifle a few years ago and am very impressed with the build quality and finish of the rifle. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest someone buy a new Winchester lever action based on my experience.
