I dig mine: old-school refinished, drilled-out front sight with fiber optic, and hugely upgraded 92FS Centurion. The Langdon trigger-job-in-a-bag took it to the next level. My nephew-in-law, who served in Iraq, will likely get it...someday
I inherited my passed Father-in-Law's Viet Nam bringback French MAC pistol (made in 1952), complete with the paperwork for the bringback. I DID shoot it twice. The first time after a careful inspection, cleaning, and lubrication to assure proper function. The second time to share the experience...
I've got a baker's dozen firearms. As a mental exercise, and I suspect many others have done this, I've ranked them in terms of which ones, in order, I'd be able to part with. Handy to do, for the future. I'm pretty much at a "no net increase self-imposed policy": If I get a gun, I'll sell one...
Even if I really have a gun optimized for the use I intend, I will upgrade the optic after enough time passes, even if nothing else changes. For example. when I got back into shooting (jumped in with both feet), I got a refinished and refurbished mixmaster M1 carbine. I've probably put 5k rounds...
I think it is both. A common refrain is that it is not hoarding but more about the new shooters. I don't buy that. I've helped a friend get a handgun and have heard plenty of second hand accounts. They get a box of SD ammo and a few boxes of range ammo. I think "hoarding" (a continuum) is far...
I actually found my Ruger Deerfield, Sphinx SDP, and Galil through Armslist--all in the last 2 years. Basically, I found the firarm I was interested in, then through internet search creativity, identified the listing on a seller-local classified page. Basically, the seller used Armslist to help...
I almost always get delayed on my NICS checks. I have a very common FN and LN. 10 years ago, on a busy gun show day in my state of Virginia, that often meant several hours and often "we'll, I'll be back tomorrow"as it would almost always get approved first-thing the next business day. It got...
There has been software fed agencies can and do use to scan public comments for keywording to aggregate similar comments and their main points. A consulting company I worked for about 15 years ago had semi-pioneered this software for U.S. EPA. I suspect this platform is widespread and will be...
Very nice! I picked up a rebuilt, re-sprung, and re-parkerized mix-master (by a gunsmith on hard times).M1 back in 2013 or so. I made it tacticool, putting an ultimak forward rail, choate synthetic stock with pistol grip, and a red dot (recently upgraded from old Vortex SPARC to a Holosun). It...
Nice. Enjoy! I shoot prmarily at my brother's Rod and Gun Club, which has lead targets and gongs at 220m. For me, that is enough to fulfill my need to shoot "long range." Plus, the price is right. I'd join myself, but I'm 45 minutes away, my brother is closer to 20 to 25.
My worst range day was firing my new to me Ruger Deerfield semi-auto rifle in 44 mag. Turns out both types of ammo I had for it were ""bad" and "terrible." I had no idea. It is a very finicky eater by design. I had 180 grain HOT stuff that worked the action so quick it could not eject and add a...
My personal take is that the days of rapid ammo decreases in price are over and while price decreases will continue, they will (already are) be emall and take longer. That's what worries me personally about projected price increases and conjunction with anything that spooks the populace might...
Which stores have all this ammo? I too live in Northern VA?
As for ammo prices, say 9mm, it fell sharply week after week from May through July (i've been watching closely), but seems to have stabilized at about $18 to low $20s for a box of 50. I think it is still moving down, but much more...
Shot my CCW, a 3" Springfield EMP. Ran like a top, putting almost 170 rounds of a wide variety of 9mm through it. As for me, I shot pretty well, all-in-all. Good day at my local range.
Ammo, an extra magazine for my new-to-me Sphinx SDP, and a replacement mini gunvault (my 10-year old one crapped out and I did *not* want to re-drill new holes to secure a different model).
I go to several gun shows in Virginia every years, mostly in the northern part of the State, including probably 20-30 Nation's Gun Show over the years in Chantilly, VA. The same dealers with mostly German/Nazi militaria is always in the same place. Being Jewish, it used to really chafe me, but...
