Now that Art has put the Muy Thai thread out of its misery :D, I'm interested to see who has hunted/killed hogs up close and personal.
Knives and dogs being the preferred method. If you haven't, would you want to? See poll.
One of the guys shot a 7 point with a wide but low rack.
It was still in velvet.
It was a doe. :what:
It had no twig or berries. It had all the female parts. Bodywise, it was as big as most whitetail bucks we've taken the past several years. We figure she's at least 5-1/2 years old...
What is your bullet of choice for whitetail/muley?
I prefer Gamekings, but I'm going to give Nosler Accubonds a try. I've heard a lot of good things about accuracy AND terminal effectiveness.
I have a new varmint rifle w/ 24" bull barrel and 1:8 twist.
Ran some 60gr VMax loads through it that group well in my 1:9 varmint popper. By well, I'm getting 3/4" at 100 in the 1:9, and that's with a clunky 2 stage trigger. The new rifle has a Chip McCormick 3.5# single stage. Smooth as...
Let me preface by saying I will post exact load data this evening. I wanted to post while this was fresh on my mind.
I'm doing load development for .30-06 in a bolt gun. I looked at some of my once fired brass, and the spent primers are not flush. They protrude slightly past the case head...
I need some advices. :) I've googled high and low looking for good irons to put on a flattop AR with a 20" barrel. I want good match sights similar to what you find on an M1A. A rear aperture and front post or blade arrangement.
I'm figuring they won't be cheap, but that's OK. Does anybody...
Anybody have any experience with this company and the product in particular?

Midway cancelled my backordered DPMS upper, so I'm looking at other options.
...scope for the better part of 2 minutes but opted not to shoot because of the odd piece of grass in the way. I didn't want the round to deflect. I *could* have popped the dog in the head, but that's an iffy shot. He/she got bored and walked off into the wheat and I lost sight.
I am about to...
Time to rant, rave, and vent.
I've noticed that most places that sell gun related items and hunting supplies online charge more than the actual shipping. Very few charge the actual shipping. :fire:
Midway does it. Cabelas.
I just ordered some coyote pee, and the USPS label on the box...
Anybody have any success with using the Sierra 200gr SBT and H1000 powder? Normally I'd use LR primers for a .300WM, but I'm wondering if the slow burn rate of the H1000 might need a LR Magnum primer.
Advices?
I just got back from a South Texas hog hunt. I got 3 pigs, the largest of which was a 150# sow with a lot of fat. She should be some good eatin'.
I didn't use a rifle or even a bow. We used dogs to locate and pin the animal, and when the catch dogs got it down, I stuck it in the heart with a...
Anybody had any success with using RL15 in .223 for ARs?
I made 5 rounds last night.
Rem Brass (New)
60gr VMax
Win SR Primer
2.25 OAL
25.2gr RL15 (This is pretty much in the middle of the range listed in my Lyman 48)
Rifle is 1 - 9 twist. It loves the 60gr Vmax when pushed by 24.2gr...
Are they any good?
Powder Valley sells them, and they are pretty inexpensive. They are a little less than Rainier at Midway. I don't want to get into casting and would like to stay with jacketed bullets for my pistols even for plinking and practice.
I've had several .223 cases split vertically on the case neck after the first firing. I'd say the failure rate is 4 per 100. Another 10 per 100 show signs that the failure is imminent. To top it off, a brand new case that I had FL resized yesterday was split.
Anybody else seeing this?
My...
Anybody know if/where I can get extra magazines for the Schmidt Rubin? I did a web search and had no luck, though I did find stripper clip type loaders.
I have been using my aluminum Lee Challenger press since July now. I'm very happy with it so far, but ran into a 'gotcha' last night.
I had FL resized 24 pieces of .375 H&H brass no problem a few days ago. Last night I went to load them. A Remington LRM primer, little dab of RL15 (OK a big...
I posted this in gunsmithing, but I think it will get more looks here. :)
I need some 'advices' as Arnold Schwarzenegger put it on Pumping Iron.
I have a Savage 116FSS. I bought it new. I took it apart to clean and inspect as I always do with new rifles. It does not have the floorplate...
I need some 'advices' as Arnold Schwarzenegger put it on Pumping Iron. :D
I have a Savage 116FSS. I bought it new. I took it apart to clean and inspect as I always do with new rifles. It does not have the floorplate, so it is top load/unload only.
When I put it back together, The bolt was...
I went to the outdoor range SUnday morning to shoot some handloads I had worked up in a number of rifles. The range happened to have a varmint rifle contest. Had I known that, I'd have brought more ammo than the load development stuff for it. Different story though. :(
Anyhow, most shooters...
