I solder a shim to the face of the arbor, then dress it down with a file to fit. There's quite a few ways to address the short arbor. This is just how I do it. There's no right or wrong way to do it.

Which is better? Ford or Chevy? I wouldn't know, I prefer Dodge. It's all completely subjective. You'll get as many opinions as there are people. In the end, you're better off handling them and seeing which one you prefer.
On mine, I cut the barrel down. So the latch was eliminated. But you probably don't want to shorten a sheriff model barrel any further. I would suggest a dovetail blank. They make a flat piece of steel that is dovetailed and slides right in the slot on the barrel. All you have to do is file it...
I never got on the Ruger bandwagon. But I gotta say, I could get used to that fixed sight model on the bottom, with the fancy custom grip. That's an outstanding looking piece.
1K is right Onty. The Walker and Whitneyville have the same grip. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Model Dragoons all have the same grip, and they are just a little different than the Walker and Whitneyville. I like either one myself. They are just the right size and shape for my big-ish hands.
This is a very subjective question. You're likely to get as many different answers as you get responses to the question. It largely depends on your hand size and shape.
