The Kel-Tec PF-9 is worth a look. Its DOA, not DA/SA like you asked, but the trigger pull is pretty decent, and mine is pretty accurate. Its the smallest 9mm I've ever handled (about the size of many .32's and .380's), and the price is very reasonable... about $300 brand new.

I think Nikon offers great bang for the buck. I love my 3-9x40 ProStaff, mounted on my .30-06 Savage. The Buckmaster line is really nice too.

Agreed. I cant say I'm surprised that something like this would happen in Dallas. However, I'm very disappointed, and a bit outraged, that Fort Worth was complicit in a gun grab. I'm going to let my city councilman know that I'm not the least bit pleased.
