Buying a shotgun for a right handed-left eye dominant shooter

Left eye dominate and primarily right hand shooter. The Browning BPS pump has tang safety and bottom ejection so about as truly ambidextrous as you can get in a pump shotgun. You should practice shooting on both shoulders as an earlier post mentioned more so to do with self defense needs. For...

Clint Smith on the Mossberg Shockwave

This photo really helps. Thanks. I can think of enough examples where this niche weapon would work well. Sadly, they are forbidden in CA.

Mossberg M590A1, looks mint, with Magpull Furniture

I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for that price.

Untrained dogs are not necessarily a security enhancement

All I hope our dog will do is bark. The rest is on me and my wife. Still to young a pup yet to know. The same breed dogs we had growing up barked so I'm optimistic that will happen.

    Which hand for groceries?

Story from Louis Awerbuck class. We were practicing clearing homes. This started on the outside with guns in holsters. I am right handed and kept using my right hand to open the door out of habit. He reminded me once to use my left non dominate hand. Still did it. He then pulled someone from the...

    Defensive Rifle For Strict Locales?

If you don't want a pump shotgun, I would choose a lever action rifle. I'd probably go with the 44 magnum caliber.

Would THIS be the absolute ultimate home defense weapon...?

The capacity has me intrigued. Want to wait to see if DP-12 comes out with a version of similar length with similar capacity.

Has anyone shot any of this new super low cost shotgun ammo?

A year ago Cabellas had an insane deal on Estate buckshot. It came out to something like 25 to 30 cents a round. I haven't seen it that cheap before or after and I keep looking. Ammoseek.com or gunbot.net are two good websites that lets you see all the prices out there for all kinds of ammo...

    Best Shot Gun on Budget

My general thoughts as these two are well made tanks that should last your lifetime. As for me, I own nothing but Mossberg 500 and 590s. I use my Mossberg every week. I can afford to get something that costs substantially more but have seen no reason to do so.

Does it drive you nuts when someone leaves a gun review who hasn't fired or cleaned the gun yet?

The beauty and curse of the Internet is that we can find lots of information out there. Much of it unfortunately is poorly done. It's not just firearms. In 2015 I got into woodworking. Went online to look and learn a few things and discovered same issues. As such I don't visit woodworking...

New to me 870 Wingmaster HD build

Looks very nice. I have used the Mesa side saddles and liked them. Do you plan on mounting a light?

What is the best 100 yard slug group that can be had with a smoothbore shotgun

In general, I've found the Federal Trueball and Breneke slugs work well out of my smooth bore.

    A really good wife

That is a great wife. Mine was a keeper when I discovered she would go down and take down and post new targets at the 300 yard range.

Does birdshot behave like a slug at close range?

I've gone back and forth on this myself personally. Though I generally prefer buckshot, I think birdshot could be used to effectively and minimize overpenetration. If one shot didn't stop the threat, shoot again. If second shot didn't work, aim somewhere else on the threat. Below are my two...

Maverick 88 shooting a foot high?

Buck or slugs and at what distance? I know with my bead shotgun slugs are at least as high as yours. I've never worried as its home defense so I aim low if I were to use this shotgun. Another work around might be to put a red dot sight on this shotgun to get the desired point of aim, impact.

    Brenneke black magic slugs

I like Brenek slugs and I keep some around for defensive use. What you want is penetration with a hard slug. I would probably also look to see if I could find some slugs make of a harder metal as well such as steel or tungsten carbide.

I will try this. Looks fun. I think I can do it. Will be fun to try for sure.

New animal vet with new permit-What gun to start?

Three thoughts come to mind. For putting down ill unwell animal I'd go will 22 magnum rifle. For general self defense against humans then we have the general debate. For a large four legged animal that is somehow threatening your life, I'd think of whatever you would want for bear...

    Custom hunting rifle build

As for caliber, at this point I'd likely pick one I already really love and have great confidence in than invest the time and energy to try something new. Mostly a time thing to really sort it out. Get what you like, want if you can afford it. The most economical choice doesn't need to always...
