Commercial Beretta M9 locking block generation?

It has come to my attention that Issued Military M9's still use the 1st generation locking block due to technical data package (TDP) restrictions. If I buy a new commercial M9 as a civilian will it have a 1st or 3rd generation locking block? If you have an M9 in your collection please chime in...

    Ballistics Question - Weird observation

So today I'm sighting in a 20" AR in 5.56 with an ACOG and want to be zeroed at 50 yards. According to my ballistics chart at this zero a 62 grain M855 will be 1" low at 15 yards. So I decide to sight in at 15 yards and get my hits 1" low from bullseye. I'm hitting perfectly 1" low at 15...

ACOG LEDs Red vs Green and Battery Life?

On the Trijicon MRO the difference between red and green version is significant, with the green having only about 20% the battery life of the red version. Is this the same thing with the ACOGs (TA02/TA110)? Trijicon's website lists the same number (12,000 hours on setting #4), but I wonder if...

Torque spec on rings by Leupold or Nightforce - Dry or with oil?

The dry spec was 12 inch/pounds. The screws are 4-48 (kinda small).

Torque spec on rings by Leupold or Nightforce - Dry or with oil?

I contacted a few companies and asked them this question. Leupold: "lubrication has no effect on the torque values". Trijicon: "torque specs are DRY, we do not have values for lubricated" So now I wonder if I damaged my Trijicon MRO by mounting the plate to 12 inch-pounds with the screw...

Torque spec on rings by Leupold or Nightforce - Dry or with oil?

It's confusing to me, because I watched a Leupold scope install video (from them), and the host showed that he added a drop of oil to the bolt when fastening the base to the receiver. He didn't mention the oil for the ring however. How do they expect us to know without it written down somewhere...

Torque spec on rings by Leupold or Nightforce - Dry or with oil?

I have been torquing my rings to the spec provided by these companies with a drop of Breakfree CLP on the bolt threads. A friend of mine told me this method is incorrect, and I should reduce torque by ~30% when using lubricated threads, as the spec from the manufacturer is for DRY threads. Is...

Trijicon MRO Patrol Mount Torque Question

So I got the new MRO Patrol with the QD mount. Being QD it stands to reason that you should be able to hand-tighten the bolt with just fingers, however when tightening as hard as I can the mount starts to loosen after 3 rounds out of a 5.56 rifle. There is no torque spec in the manual for this...

Would you be mad? Employee playing with your gun.....

I was at Cabelas and purchased an FNX-45 Tactical in FDE. The background check is done and they are finishing the paperwork. One of the employees, a man in his 50s proceeds to do the third serial number check. He picks up (my) new $1,300 gun and: Racks and drops the slide multiple times on an...

    Howa Rifle Info Needed....

Their one flaw from what I've heard (not experienced myself) is that the bolt stop can crack if you work the action and eject too forcefully. But A LOT of bolt rifles have that problem apparently. I've got one in 300 Win Mag with a Hogue stock, it's about a 1 MOA shooter if I don't flinch.

Looking for a decent RKBA TV series. Is Shooter any good?

The new Shooter show lost me when Bob shot his 338 Lapua and the rifle didn't even tremble. And that horrible post production flash added to the muzzle. Eww.

Glock Gen 5, seems official now.

I am seeing conflicting reports about the new "marksman" barrel - is the rifling traditional or polygonal? This data sheet says "octagonal" for the barrel profile. Octagonal means polygonal correct?

Which Semi Auto with the Longest RSA Replacement Interval?

You won't usually find parts replacement intervals in owners manuals. The information posted is from calling the manufacturer, the armorer's manual, or asking gun smiths who have attended official armorer's courses for that particular manufacturer. If any of the numbers seem off and you have a...

Which Semi Auto with the Longest RSA Replacement Interval?

In thinking about which handguns are the most durable without preventative maintenance I thought it might be interesting to compile a list of recoil spring assembly (RSA) replacement intervals from various manufacturers. Which pistol can go the longest without replacement? Initial list...

Colored Polymer Frames - Weaker than Black?

Interestingly enough, the military FN SCAR rifle is usually in FDE and the new XM17 Sig handgun just selected by the army is also in FDE. Maybe the issue is more academic than anything else.

Colored Polymer Frames - Weaker than Black?

I heard a rumor that firearm frames in FDE, OD, etc are weaker than the standard black frame due to less carbon black in the mixture to absorb UV energy. Is there any truth to this?

Rust on Shotshells - Harder than Barrel Steel?

Living near the ocean rust on my 12 gauge shotshells is a common occurrence. Modern shells use brass-coated steel in the hull. Here's my question: Will using slightly rusted shells, assuming they are safe pressure-wise, damage (scratch) the steel in the barrel chamber during loading and...
