With moa you also have several different scales.
SMOA or IPHY and you have MOA
The trouble comes from manufacturers claiming moa adjustments, when in reality they are IPHY.
IPHY is shorthand for inch per hundred yards.
Mil also has to deal with this, but almost the entire industry has...
Out with the old and in with the new. The atacr is about the same cost, but has better features. No reason to offer both.
I don't think the new atacr comes with rings though. That was a real bargain with the old f1.
I always ask myself a few simple questions when considering buying a new scope.
Will this increase my first round hit percentage?
Will this help acquire a target easier and faster?
Am I willing to hike with this scope on my rifle?
I feel like Nightforce is trying to rein in the industry with the atacr 4-16. Everything needed to make consistent first round hits, without all the extra weight, bulk, and useless features.
ffp.
Mil adjustments. Capped windage. Low profile elevation with zero stop and zero lock. Plenty...
For my type of shooting, anything above 15x is useless. Mirage dictates most of this, but so does field of view. Anything above 15x is only used for a 100 yard zero.
Hitting a 1 or 2moa target at odd distances doesn't require 20 power. It only requires good dope, good glass, rock solid...
The ARC m2 rifle looks interesting, especially being able to switch the bolt from right to left. The mausingfield just doesn't do anything more than my current actions.
I've had both the ss 3-9 and vortex razor. The glass was awful in mine, and nowhere near my Razor. It shouldn't be either, it's only a third of the price. The CA was so bad in the ss, that it was almost like seeing double.
Changing magnification is also a pain in the 3-9. The mag ring is...
Get a good range finder instead of trying to perform range estimation with a reticle. FFP reticles are used for alot more than range finding. They are great for holding wind, or even elevation in a pinch. Range finding, not so much.
Thanks btg3, having never owned a nightforce, I didn't realize they only offered a three year warranty on electronics.
It took some digging through their online owners manual just to find that info out. They certainly aren't very up front about it. I still think its a better warranty than...
Well, looks like my prayers have been answered. the new nightforce 4-16 checks off a whole lot of my requirements in a long range scope. Only the weight and price don't fit.
ffp, 1/2 mil reticle.....check
capped windage knob........check
42mm objective..........check
10 mil elevation with zero...
