I desperately want to replace the Y-comp (a.k.a. WHAT????) on my 18" SPR. Budget is ~$30.

I know SPR guys like side ported brakes to spot their shots. The Y-comp doesn't help with that for some reason. Concussion is overwhelming at times.

Something with a closed bottom is preferred.

Wish I could afford a $100 botique hybrid comp, but that's out of the question at the moment. My carbine upper came with BCM comp which I'm quite satisfied with, and I would prefer a griffin flash comp down the road.

I've heard that type 89 J comp works damn well. 60% recoil reduction like the big brakes.

As far as the a2, I think I'd rather go with the phantom 5c1, very similar but better flash hiding and possibly just a little bit more help with muzzle flip.

A2 flash hider.

That's what I used on my SPR build and I'm perfectly happy with it. Muzzle rise/recoil is so minimal on these rifles anyway because of the weight of the SPR profile barrel and the softer recoil of the rifle-length gas system.

Anything else really just adds length, weight, and noise.

Armalite has their compensators on clearance for $15. Ar10 and Ar15. I put one on my 6.8. They are designed for set screw, but I used crush washer and a dab of Loctite. Worked great. Especially for the money!
