.357 Sig....38 Super and now the .45 GAP? Stayers or Trends?

.357 Sig - Stayer. Nearly twice (sometimes nearly thrice) the capacity of most revolvers, in a package with less recoil. Same or better ballistics. .38 Super has already been proven to be a Stayer in competitive shooting. .45 GAP - Not a Stayer. Most people who wanted large caliber, but...

    How many carry open?

I meant getting the CCW permit and the jacket. I'm getting used to the VT carry laws, where you can carry a gun, no permit at all, as long as you're an adult.

    What is "The Israeli draw"?

Then, I think you are supposed to push the slide against your leg to cock the pistol, but it ain't worth it. A good gun and good holster goes almost the whole way in preventing carrying AD's. The rest comes to the user.

I heard the dumbest thing at Cabelas the other day.

Jeez, I think that if someone wants to know what caliber a gun is, they should do their research, or ask, read the owners manual, look at the tag on or around the gun, look at the side of the gun, etc. Also, maybe there should be a supply of snap-caps behind the counter so if some dimwit wants...

    How many carry open?

I understand why people open carry on their property, but I don't understand why anyone would carry openly ANYWHERE else. 1. Cops might not be so well-versed in the carry laws, and might decide to take that guy with the gun on his hip off the street before he does any harm. That happened to...

OTHER than a gun..what's best for home defense?

Knife. It's simpler and easier to use indoors than a machete, while not being too small. Add a Surefire to that equation, and you've got a good chance.

Completely right. All the training in the world means nothing compared to alertness.

    Martial Artist vs Firearm

I would put stock in the Martial artist who has a gun against the plain old Martial artist. Someone who can use their hands, feet, joint locks, etc. to subdue, as well as having a projectile weapon would win. Train hard.

What's your favorite caliber to shoot?

Just some nice light .38's. They have an incredible calming effect.

Martial artist damages my G19 sights and possibly gun as well..

Wow, that was a real great test, considering that he was going against a non-assailant, had declared his intentions and LIED, and wasn't using an inert weapon. Go forth and kick his incredibly dumb ass.

Hm, that Cane Masters site has the following description of one of their canes: The legendary Cane Masters cane. The finest craftsmanship of the world's greatest Self Defense Tool. I'll take a gun over a cane anyday.

Money is NO object CUSTOM Yours?

Blued Smith and Wesson M27 with a three and a half inch barrel, and some tasteful engraving (i.e. not the whole damn gun). Cocobolo grips, and polished and rounded trigger, with a trigger pull of maybe 8.5 lbs DA, and 3.5 lbs SA.

Workin' man's guns: Let's see your worn finishes.

I definitely agree. Seeing a gun with a worn finish means I know that it can take abuse and keep going. It gives character and tells stories. It also reduces resale value so I can get old stuff cheap :neener:

"If 1911 was so good, why did cops use revolvers so long?"

Think about it. Military experience with the 1911 in the fifties said that it rattled, was inaccurate, kicked like a mule, etc. Even if police departments had them available, I doubt they would have taken them based on after-action reports.

    Back to the basics...I need a .22

You might want to consider practicing with lower-power ammo as well. If you are using hot reloads, or any hot ammo in general, that's a good way to cut short your skill-development and increase bad habits.

    S&W 66 vs. 686

I find the balance to be better with the 66, but in the end, the 686 will last a tad longer, and your hand might not hurt so much.

    Beginner with sticks?

2.5'-3' as about 4-10" longer than most stickfighters prefer. There will probably be an FMA school nearby if you are in MA.

How many is too many to carry at one time?

Remember the saying, which ties in nicely with Murphy's Law: Two is one and one is none!

Recommend a good fixed blade survival knife

I'd personally go for the BK10, the Crewman. A personal preference though.
