    BP Barrel Break In

Some may say something against it, but every new barrel I get gets 100 passes with flitz on patches before I even take the first shot. I learned this from an old friend. I had trouble getting good groups with a new T/C inline, and Rich said "watch this!". After 100 passes with flitz, there...

Is my old 9mm brass the problem here?

Perhaps not enough crimp on the bullets, and some are seating deeper when chambering. That can cause a serious pressure spike, especially with 9mm.

    New black powder hunter here

After you figure out your load for accuracy, make a mark on your ram rod that shows the depth it should reach when loaded. When loading, it's best to push the ball/bullet with one steady motion until it stops. You don't have to do all that traditional whomping and bouncing of the ram rod in...

    New black powder hunter here

Lots of good advice. I use the same Hornady bullet/sabot that you have. 100gr loose Triple 7 is perfect for good expansion out to 100 yds with that bullet. I took a buck a couple weeks ago at 90 yards, further than my usual shots here in the blue ridge mountains. Pass through shot went...

    Question for other BP makers

I'll probably try a small batch like Hawg suggests. Chimney fires burn hot and fast so there has to be a lot more combustibles than ash.

    Question for other BP makers

Has anyone tried making black powder from chimney dust? I swept my chimney and have some dried creosote flakes and dust and am curious if it would make good BP.

    Pietta Pepperbox a good buy?

Load consistency, and lots of practice with the gun does wonders for accuracy. My childhood BB gun lost it's rear sight from me meddling with it for distance shots. It was only spot welded on, and broke off. Still, I could hit a gnat flying because it became a part of me. Still can, with...

Does any one know what this pistol is and who made them.

Mine has a rifled barrel. They came that way early on. No point really, which is probably why they stopped doing it.

You can get the missing parts at Deer Creek gun parts.

    Pietta Pepperbox a good buy?

I've had one for years. I put a birds head grip on it. It's too heavy to carry around as a snake gun, but it's lots of fun on July 4th making noise. Double ball loads are potent, but it's pretty much a belly gun regarding any expectation of accuracy. I like period correct guns for sure, but...

    Percussion Pistol Kit identification?

I got that kit when I was a kid in the 70s. When you set the brass trigger guard, and it doesn't fit to the contours of the stock, DO NOT try to bend it. Cast brass breaks. Don't ask how I know.

I'd like to re-barrel a ROA with a Bobby Hoyt Gain twist barrel

While gain twist and progressive twist styles may be a bit different, they are synonymous. Progressive (gain) twist and progressive depth are different.

I'd like to re-barrel a ROA with a Bobby Hoyt Gain twist barrel

Gary Barnes rebarrelled a ROA for me. I know he can do it, just not sure he will do it. Might be worth an ask though. https://cartridgeconversion.com/home-page#

    Source for 7.62x25 cast bullets?

Why not get some .32 ACP bullets and size them to .311? That's what I do with 7.62x38r, sized down to .309. The Lee push through sizing dies are inexpensive.

    CVA optima v2 questions

New ones? Weird since they were discontinued years ago. Oh I see another company teamed up with CVA to bring them back. They sure are proud of them. Not cheap.

    CVA optima v2 questions

red rick is right. It's a bit big for a youngster. My load is about the same as rick's, but with 100 gr T7. My grandkids will use my Optima V2 pistol (no longer made) that I put a AR stock on. It shoots 77 grains T7 (easy to remember) and a saboted 240 grain Hornady XTP/MAG bullet. It still...

What to do with old Triple7 pellets?

Not ready to give up yet, so, here's my next hairbrained idea. Using full brass hulls. The, CPVC is a sloppy fit in the hull so I glue wrapped it with paper. Seems those little hazmat warning labels are just right for that. Trimmed down the CPVC, punched out some 1/2 inch wads, and loaded it...
