This impending action stems from...

Round count - Your most heavily used gun (poll)

My Springfield 1911 TRP Over 20K rounds through it, never been sent to the factory or had a gunsmith work on it.

Can anyone recommend a good gunshop in Illinois?

Megasports in Plainfield Illinois, not far off of I-55 just outside Joliet. How knowledgeable the help is really depends on who you end up talking with. They have a huge inventory of pistols, rifles and shotguns, probably the largest in northern Illinois. There is a Gander Mountain...

    NRA-- Yes? No? Maybe? Indifferent?

YES Life member Other groups are nice and I am happy for them but the only one on the radar screen of the ruling elite is the NRA.

Any Aurora(IL) Sportsman's Club members here?

I've shot trap there a bunch of times. Shooting trap under the lights at night rocks! Neither me nor my buddy are members but he knows a lot of the regulars. They are open to the public and are a bunch of nice folks. You should be able to show up shoot and make some new friends pretty easy...

Winchester White Box stories you have heard....

I have run tens of thousands of 45acp rounds through my 1911's. Don't recall any ammo related stoppages ever. White box was my preferred ammo for years because it flat out worked in my guns all the time. Now "Winclean" on the other hand...don't get me started...

Which AR-15 upper for 400-500 yard accuracy?

Not in the two day Appleseed I participated in. We fired 5-13 rounds per stage. I used a 16"AR with iron sights. Before my next Appleseed I plan on having a 20" AR to use.

Great photographs barman, thanks for posting them.

    AR trouble... Please help.

I've hesitated to change anything because the gun has been flawless with all other ammo. I had heard about the faster powder theory before, also maybe harder brass allowing gas to get into the chamber and fouling it so bad it binds up the shells in the chamber. Between those and the H buffer...

    AR trouble... Please help.

No, I just stopped shooting the SS-109 and use the M193 instead. Will upgrading the the extractor spring help? It is already strong enough to tear a chunk out of the rim. You think it isn't getting a deep enough hold and sliding down the rim a little? Glad you are up and running with no...

    AR trouble... Please help.

Will installing a heavy buffer or a 9 millimeter buffer eliminate overfunctioning? My RRA 16" middy does the same exact thing with Radway Green SS-109 British mil-surp. It rips a perfect chunk off the rim of the shell and usually needs to be tapped out of the chamber with a rod. The gun...

    Winchester 69a

My buddy just acquired one of these ol guys. It was used as a training rifle for some branch of the military and still has the original sling. We had planned on having a range day and were going to bring our respective nephews and teach them how to shoot. This gun was what we were...

September Appleseed shoots! 7 of them!

Great report Kris! My experience this last weekend very much matches Kris's. Proper use of the sling and learning how to get into "natural point of aim" while in the various shooting positions were the two biggest things I took away from the class. On day two everything fell into place...

    1911 Stiff slide release

I don't recall ever trying to drop the slide with an empty mag in the gun to tell you the truth. I have always dropped the mag, rode the slide down and dry fired downrange to drop the hammer at the end of a range session. Rereading his post I see this only occurs with an empty magazine in...

    1911 Stiff slide release

Does the slide lock back normally every time while shooting? My buddy has an Auto Ordinance that wouldn't lock back reliably and often the magazines wouldn't drop free. I'm no gunsmith but know more than him so he asked me to look at it. When the gun was unloaded, empty mag inserted and...

Do you use the slide stop lever or slingshot method to return the slide to battery?

Slingshot Hand strength isn't an issue for me having used hand tools as a mechanic my whole adult life, so I see no need to use the overhand. Slingshot is a more natural motion to me. Being a more natural motion is good for when the adrenalin dump destroys your fine motor skills.
