I loved Northern California, too. Used to live in Happy Camp, up on the Klamath River.

Wouldn't go back, though. Things have changed.

Really? Happy Camp has changed? They must have gotten a stop light & a pizza place...!

They even commenced to tell me I was crazy for even having a gun in my house.

Then by all means the bay area is the perfect place for her to be. And please make her and her ilk stay there.

And if they ever decide to move east, tell them all states except Massachusetts, New York and Illinois have disappeared. And those that haven't disappeared are closed.

Maybe we could get everybody else who feels the way she does to move to San Fran.

OMG... I forgot The Salt Lick BBQ in Dripping Springs.

It is rather commercial now, but the food still rocks. Hit it on your way back from Austin to SA.

I hope all goes well with your move. You are lucky to have a job to go to. I was born and raised in my home state of Texas. We moved a lot, but I spent most of my time in Houston or Sealy and the surrounding towns: Brenham, Bellville, Katy, etc. I still remember my two favorite places to eat or get food: Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant and Brenham sausage, Co. The epitome of great food. Unfortunately, my mother, sister and I were forced to leave because of domestic issues. I have lived in the People's Republik of Mass-holes for WAY too long. I have been trying to relocate back to the Austin area for about a year now. I don't have the money to finish college here, so there is no reason to stay. I have a decent job as a Systems Technician for a fairly large newspaper company, but I am having trouble finding a job in the Austin area. I have applied for at least a hundred jobs so far. Full cover letter and resume; no playing around. But nothing has turned up. I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and just move down there and get an apartment and see if I have better luck as a local resident. If anyone has any advice, I would appreciate a PM so as not to hijack this thread, which I may have already done... Anyway, Kingofthehill, I know you will enjoy the great state of Texas. I hope it has not changed too much in the last decade that I have been away. Let us know how the San Antonio area is.

Like the song by Lyle Lovett says:

"That's right you're not from Texas, Texas wants you anyway!"

A big welcome to a Great State!

All this talk about Texas is making me home sick. Moved this past January from Abilene out to Knoxvegas, TN. Hopin' I'll move back some day. San Antonio had to be my favorite city of all in Texas.....PERIOD.

Slow down and enjoy the life here. Stay away from the California wannabe cities and life is good. SA isn't too bad. Dallas and Houston counties suck.

Welcome to Texas! Gumble grumble.....(Too many Californians invading this great state..)

Welcome to Texas, and remember, we don't care how you used to do it in California

Amen brother. At least one of us will tell you, "If you like it that way go back there."

Good luck, here, and enjoy your new home. If you find yourself in the Austin area drop me a note, and we'll burn some powder.

Congrats on your move! I've got friends from the SA area and they rave about it, so I have a feeling it'll be a good thing for you.

I moved out of the DPRK in 2005 when we had all that rain. The El Prado Dam almost burst (Chino Hills area in the Inland Empire by the 71 and 91 freeways) and all the dead wood from the bark beetle infestation did no good at preventing the mud slides. Conservationists 0, common sense 1.

I moved the family to Idaho, just outside of Boise. My kids don't take "allergy" medicine anymore (IMHO, I think it was the smog affecting them) and buying a firearm is like buying a good bottle of bourbon .... show some ID, pay, and off you go.

There is nothing quite like having desert to ride 4 wheelers in, hot springs to soak in while camping, and the beautiful Sawtooth Mountains to climb and enjoy the scenic views. We even have snow into May and June most of the time.

Oh, and I visit the in-laws in Oceanside once in a while ..... when I miss the ocean enough.

I left KA in 98 and only went back to visit family. but now I have no one to visit so I have not been back for any reason since 02. yes I lived in the northern part and do miss the mountains but I have them here in co. also.

I believe when you leave to make sure of a few things. Do not tell them you are leaving the state untill you have all of you money from any real estate deal in CA in your pocket.
Make sure if you have sold anything like a rtv or anything else that the state has agreed with paperwork you no longer own it.

First thing I did after moving was get a new drivers license and plates for my vehicals.

And while you're in San Antonio, run up to Lockhart and have some of Kruez Bro. sausage. That is absolutely the best Texas sausage there is. Pretty good barbecue too. Short trip and well worth it. Welcome to Texas.

RiverCity- Can your recommend a decent range for handguns?... Do any have memberships that are worth getting?

Also im looking into getting into some longer range rifle stuff, longest out here is like 100yards i do with an M1... so i NEED new gear if i can find something longer out there :) hehehehehe.

Also, any reputable shops to buy stuff? I'll finally be able to do some online stuff without restrictions but im looking to buy my "welcome to Texas" XDm right when i get my ID :) No more of this 10round BS... YAY!

Good luck on the move, by reading the posts, it sounds like you are welcomed and will be a good fit. The only shame of leaving the anti states is that the antis spread into the pro states still because the pro states funny enough have better standards of living, better employment(or unemployment rates rather) rates(from some research I've been doing on tax rates and all), just seems eventually the antis will overrun us all lol from the way their states are going. I've been getting more and more students(I'm an NRA certified pistol instructor and Florida born and bred southern son) from New York city, Illinois(Chicago a few of them), and the rare Californian, and they all have things to tell me about what's wrong with my state. So please, and I'm sure you won't, don't go picking tempers and comparing states. Other than that welcome to the free states and enjoy yourself.

Well I made the move from CA to NV (a free state) about 5 years ago, and I don't know much about you or TX but you did the right thing...

Don't believe him man, everyone knows the best sausage in Texas is made SOUTH of I 10 in Hillji, at Praseks Hillje Smokehouse!!:D:neener:

Congrats..:D I defected from the PRK to Utah in 2001, the 250.00 a month electric bill for a 1 bedroom apt at the time pushed me over the edge. Best move of my life.
