The finish is peeling, flaking off the inside of the reciever.
It started with a little spot from the bolt rub, I cleaned it, shot a little gun scrubber around the barrel, and it just peeled a lot of the finish off?? oops?
and now the finish is just falling off all over the inside?? Is this normal wear?

only about 150 round through this new rifle?

If it's flaking off on the inside of the receiver I would not worry about it. Just hose it out every once in awhile and eventually it will stop. If it was on the outside I'd be more then a little upset.

I don't know what the finish is on the new rifles but you may have had a pit or flaw in the finish that allowed it to fail in that spot. I wouldn't worry about the finish on the inside of the receiver. My 10/22 has been beadblasted and left bare.

From the mid-seventies on the recievers were just painted instead of anodyzed and many had the finish begin to fail shortly after purchase.

That's one of the reasons you will see so many that are just polished aluminum. It takes a little time, but you can remove all of the finish and polish till it looks like chrome, then clear coat. Purchase after-market stainless barrel and polish to match receiver and VWALA

OK, doesn't sound like any big deal or problem. Won't be hard to remove the finish when I decide to I will just use more of the older type gun scrubber again?
Just thinking , Maybe send it to be anodyzed to match the new barrel I'm looking at.
Thanks for the info.

The paint they use on the things is pretty tough stuff. Paint remover wont even strip the stuff.

Not a problem. the paint on the inside-top of mine started flaking off where the bolt contacts it. I asked the same thing at Rimfire central and was told it's common and not a problem. Mine eventually stopped flaking. I used really fine steel wool to smooth the edges where the paint flaked so it wouldn't get any worse. Only a consmetic issue and will never be noticed since its inside the receiver.

loner 5567 is right on. Gunscrubber and other solvents WILL dissolve the finish on a 10/22 receiver in seconds. And you will find many 10/22's with polished aluminum because of this. Eventually the flaking will get bad enough that you're better off just stripping and polishing. If you don't want to coat it with anything you can just rub it with some flitz once a year to keep the polish looking good.

The early models 1964-1980 or so were anodized. Then the bean counters went to paint. The sooner it vanishes from the inside of the receiver the better. It wasn't designed to be there in the first place.
For "blemmed" painted exteriors try stripping and then Aluma Hyde (Brownells) or even a Duplicolor high temp black popped in a toaster oven for a couple of hours as per their instructions. It's not bullet proof but plenty good!
