Greetings! I got a smoking hot deal on a Ruger 10/22 stainless steel, new in the box. I would like to put a low powered variable optic on it. My go to scope manufacturer was Nikon. I can get a Rimfire scope used from Nikon for less than 150.00. Am I missing the boat? Should I be looking at a different brand of scope? Mostly going to be used for small critter killing at home, but can’t rule out an occasional squirrel or rabbit. Most of what I have found in the forum is old info. Any guidance would be much appreciated. I would prefer to stay under 200.00 if at all possible.

For $151 and $9 shipping, you can get brand new Burris Fullfield E1 6.5-20x50 with mil dot reticle and lifetime warranty - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...lfield-e1-6-5-20x-50mm-169-9-shipping.893341/

Dack Outdoors drop ships the scope so it will take about a month but can't beat the price - https://dackoutdoors.com/product/bu...-yds-fov-1-tube-black-matte-ballistic-mil-dot

Sightron makes a dedicated rimfire scope that’s under $200 and is very nice. IMO Sightron is the best of that tier of scopes that’s above junk but below low-end Leupold and Burris.

This is the highest rated .22 scope for less than $200 , good warranty and excellent performance. 2-7 is an ideal .22 hunting range . The smaller 32mm tube just looks right to and it has a 50 yard parallax zero .

Nikkon is no longer in the scope business, so if you buy a Nikkon it will be new old stock. No warranty or service available.
This is what I have on my take down, fits well in the factory cary case without having to remove it.

I'm more put off by having MIL gradations on the reticle, and MOA gradations on the turret.

Make them both MIL, or both MOA.
You are not the OP. My reply was to OP's request for under $200 scope instead of $150 used Nikon.

Since Nikon no longer sells scopes, OP inquired and requested guidance for different brand scope and I suggested a Burris scope priced under $200.

OP could take my suggestion into consideration. What reticle/turret type you prefer may not be the same as OP's preference.

OK, back to OP. :)

Here's a pic of mine, I do have the Mag Pul stock.
Sorry it's in pic with 20210220_150132.jpg siblings, I'm not home and don't have a solo pic of my takedown.

Can't say about specific scopes, but FWIW, my takedown 10/22 would not hold zero if taken down and reassembled. I went to a red dot mounted on the forend, which solved the issue.

I guess I should have mentioned, that gray synthetic 10/22 in my pic is carrying an Athlon Neos 3x9x40. It is also in your price range and has been a great scope on that rifle. I just like the smaller profile of the UTG for the takedown.

I like 1-4 scopes on small caliber hunting rigs. I run a Gen 1 Vortex PST. The are around $260 at Eurooptics. The Burris RT6 is also nice, but they are only selling it with a mount, which you will be paying for and don't need. The only downside to the PST is the exposed turrets. Once I zero, I wrap the windage turret with electrical tape so it doesn't get bumped.

An update from a question I posed at the beginning of winter. I opted for a red dot optic. Got it mounted yesterday and will do a range day today. Had some medical issues that pushed the project backwards. Ended up with a Crimson Trace and removed the riser. Bright, good site picture and hopefully will work well for what I want it to. Will post results once I shoot it. Thanks to everyone who gave their opinions. I already had a .22 with a 1-4 power scope (which I need to shoot as well).

Glad you’re feeling better and best of luck on the new optic. For my son’s 10/22 TD we swapped between an old Nikon 2-7x and a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot. In the end he preferred the scope but honestly there are boards of new inexpensive scopes that easily best Nikon.
