It’s time to get my 6yr old to shoot with me, but she can’t pull the trigger on the 10/22.

I will replace it and I found either the ruger drop in plastic bx trigger for $80 or the kidd trigger kit for $105

I might swing for the fence for the kids single stage drop in trigger housing, but that is almost what I paid for the 10/22 ($200)

So help me out, i am tired of the crap factory trigger but would rather not spend $200
I know it’s been covered before, but I have not see these two compared

I have KIDD Trigger Job Kits in 5 of my 10/22s and have installed them in 2 of my friends 10/22s. They are fantastic.

I put the Vq target hammer in mine like greyling22 said and I am happy with it . Very easy to do , just watch a youtube video .

You can find the bx brand new on eBay a lot cheaper than $80, paid $56 for mine. Really happy with it, it was a big improvement. No experience with the others mentioned, but I do recommend the bx.

I'd personally think there's something wrong with your factory trigger if a 6yr old can't pull it. Might investigate that first.

Otherwise, in the effort of spending someone else's money - get the BX trigger. Doesn't sound like you're wanting much from the rifle, just a more kid-friendly trigger. No reason to mess with shipping and wait time. Drop in the BX trigger and be done with it.

The VQ trigger will in all probability be better than the BX and cost half as much.

That said, while I have one KIDD two stage target trigger ($300), I usually put mine together with Power Custom parts as I prefer their mag and bolt releases.

the factory trigger is so heavy that with the gun unloaded i can take the safety off and hold the gun by the trigger without the trigger engaging. it has a nikon prostaff 3-9 on it as well and to get the hammer to drop I have to bounce the gun when I supper the rifle just by the trigger. i shot 500 rds one day, several years ago, to try and determine what the best ammo was at 50, 75 and 100 yds. 5 types of ammo, 100rds each. this was back ten years ago when you could find ammo.

my finger ached for the rest of the weekend after that day.

does anyone know how the brimstone tier 1 trigger is? I can't tell from the webpage if that is a full drop in kit or if I need to send in my trigger group. thanks

The BX trigger is absolutely adequate for what you need and, as someone else pointed out, you should be able to get it for $60 or under. Alternatively, I modified a couple of my factor triggers using internet instructions and they're just as good. 2-3 lbs of pull is easily obtainable.

Maybe I'm behind the times. I have 2 older 10/22s with stock factory triggers and they aren't that heavy. Now I haven't handled a "new" 10/22 in the last 10 years so I don't know if they should be that so you can hang the gun with a scope on it with it. You may want to call Ruger and complain. They may fix it for free. Thats what I'd do. Worth a try and free. Good luck.

If the trigger is THAT heavy, something is wrong. I've started kids as young as 2yrs old on 10/22's - the finger strength is there, as long as the rifle isn't broken - sounds like yours is.

How about you go over to RimFirenCentral and look up the DIY trigger jobs, specifically the one that involves your shop vise a specific common sized drill bit, a razor blade, and a good stone. Then take the kid out to the shop with you, let him do things like put the drill bit through the hammer axis hole and tighten the vise and make a few of the first non critical passes with the stone.

Bet you improve three things, the trigger pull, your son, and your relation with your son. Shouldn't take but a half hour of your time. Your time worth $200 an hour? Time with you kid worth more than that?

BTW I am no super duper gunsmith and dropped the pull on my first trigger job using that technique by half and polished up a few things to make the pull so smooth it feels like a lot less. One buddy insists it is dangerously light even though I have shown him weights hanging on its trigger and more than on my Anshutz which he has no issues with.

If you feel you would be better off buying the parts at least let the kid help you take the trigger group apart (perhaps let him drive out the pins with you holding the punches) and re installing the new parts (with say a hard rubber mallet on the pins going back in) so that the work becomes "his" (or "hers") as well as the shooting experience.

No matter how good a teacher you are consider letting the kid get some outside instruction when they are old enough. I taught my son the basics, then was his BSA Shooting Merit Badge Councilor (he shot the passing scores straight off the bat after Acing the classroom stuff, even helped me with the other boys) and he is around me a lot, but an Appleseed class taught him a lot. Admittedly nothing I had not tried to teach him before, but it came from someone else and not "just Dad."

I bought a 10/22 Black Friday of 2017 and can verify that with a TRS-25 attached you can indeed support the rifle without tripping the trigger on a new production 10/22. I opted for the home spun job as always and have a reasonably crisp 3 lbs. now to hunt wabbits with by correcting the hammer hook angle and polishing. No more cost than the stones I had and some wet/dry sandpaper to 600 grit.

I am surprised nobody voted for the kidd trigger kit,

Looks like I am gonna order the Bx trigger, I checked out the various diy methods and I don’t want to play with changing surfaces, I understand it is simple and should work, but I’ll make more money and the bx trigger isn’t that expensive

I’d rather have a drop in unit that passed some QA /QC process for my daughter to learn on

Thanks for the help

Any semi auto 22 a kid is going to be around needs to have a last shot BHO.
I know not germane, but I take the opportunity when I can, to help prevent a sad accident, the type of which I was witness to long ago.

Some years ago I traded for a 10-22 that had a trigger pull heavier than the weight of the rifle. I installed a Power Custom target hammer and shims and it turned out pretty nice. Not a complicated operation at all.

I've probably installed a handful of these in various 10/22s for the family, and I don't think that I every paid more than $60. Installation is straightforward, and the results are reasonable.

Another vote for Brimstone. Custom trigger for under $60? Would use him again in a heartbeat.

how do you know the correct hammer hook angle and how do you keep it square left to right?
