.45acp Remington UMC (union metallic cartridge) 230gr. metal case.

These were marked down twice, from $40 to $22 and then to $10.50 per box of 250. I bought all 7 boxes for $79 otd.

Anyone familiar with these particular rounds? I'm guessing they're gonna polute the hell out of my XD, but for 4 and a half cents per round...couldn't pass that up.

I've gotten 9mm for even less. Sometimes, they mark a case of 5x50 with the bar code for 1 box of 50.:D

Nothing wrong with UMC's. Nothing at all. They're reliable and clean in my experience. Good factory practice ammo from a big-name maker.

Well...you're not gonna find anymore...sorry.
My cousin works in the sporting goods dept of my local Walmart and he informed me of the 2nd markdown and put them aside for me.

My only question was the quality of the rounds..."UMC" is a new one for me.
At any rate, I've got plenty to practice with for quite some time now...and I really am quite good with my XD45 already, so...maybe I over spent.

bilt4comfort: you can shoot for nearly free if you want to sell me your brass when you're done. I'll give you $40 per 1,000.

Good work on the deal scavenging. I'm just a little bit jealous.

Is that the large yellow-box "Mega Pack"? If so, that's a steal!!!

I broke my Kimber in with one of those Mega Packs. I usually shoot Win White Box at the range, but BassPro had the Mega Pack on sale for several dollars off the normal price of $53 and I snagged it in anticipation of buying the Kimber the following week.

Rem UMC is dirty ammo IMO, regardless whether it's out of the green/white box or yellow mega pack, but not any worse than most other cheap range ammo. I have seen claims on the message boards that the case rim is soft and may crack off instead of extracting in some guns. Also seen it stated that the ammo is slightly underpowered. All I know for certain is I had zero problems with mine in a brandee-new Kimber.

I think you got an incredible deal on it. Where did you buy it?

UMC is Remingtons cheapo brand. Like USA for Winchester or American Eagle for Federal. Nothing wrong with it at all. Great deal.

Oh, no question about it.

I too get bored with my uncanny ability to drill the center of the bullseye from 25 yards offhand over and over again. Absolutely monotonous, I tell you.

Why do I even bother?

OK...I get you.
Maybe it's just all the cleaning that's got me down? lol.

Just checked with my local walmart and they have several on hand... but they are $76 per box.:cuss:

I even asked her to scan and make sure.... yup.. still $76.

When can I find a steal?!?!? :(

I don't even have a .45

& I would have bought it for when I get one!

We are all insanely jealous now....I hope your happy:neener:

It must be an individual store clearance because I've called a thousand Wal-Marts in Austin and San Antonio and no one has that price.

I was willing to travel everywhere to buy all boxes!! haha

Retail price ranges from $65-$76.

You got one HECK OF A DEAL!:what:

The only thing I shoot at 25yds offhand is the target frame. And that's on a good day...

wally mart is really strange sometimes,

they had several diffrent loads on clearance here locally (in Austin); some 130gr .270's, .25 auto, and others. The stores I checked all told me they were getting ready for hunting season, but funny, they didn't sell guns anymore; Not a one. Got 4 boxes of #4 shot for my 20 gauge for $5 each & a NIB Garmin eTrex Legend GPS for $35.00. Just gotta call around if you can't be there.

Probably just an induhvidual case of someone (a) not being familiar with guns; (b) familiar with math; and (c) too lazy to go luck up info. Wally World has been either moving, or rebuilding, their shooting departments, and in either case, stuff needs to be made to go away....

Not accurate...my cousin is one of us and knows exactly what is up.

Wally World has been either moving, or rebuilding, their shooting departments, and in either case, stuff needs to be made to go away....

This part is right on the money.
The advantage of having my cousin on "the inside" is....he can "make them go away" in the backroom waaaaaaay back on the top shelf until the final markdown is approved, then call me, then bring them out to the register upon my arriving.;)

I am also an avid fisherman, and let me tell you, I've bought several hundreds of dollars of tackle for pennies on the dollar from him.:neener:

Kind'a filthy upon firing; but otherwise a great deal~! ;)

Remington must have a powder similar to Alliant Unique, that they use
in the UMC brand? Although Unique is an excellent (and versatile) powder,
its filthy as it gets; often times leaving the weapon (and shooter) covered
in smut~! :scrutiny::eek::uhoh:

I just bought 6 boxes of Blazer Brass .45 for 9.97 each at a local Wally World. Would of bought more but that is all they had at the time.

$76 per box

per box of 250 is $15.20 per 50, which is about where I remember them being last time I bought.

Still, I should spot check prices locally...

Walmart clearances are like that. If you see a deal like that, grab all you can afford, because likely in a couple weeks it'll be back at full price. I've picked up .380 and .40 Silvertip locally at half the usual price.
