I saw a bubaed by cutting down the fore stock 1909 Argentine rifle. All the action parts and the barrel matched and the action was coated with cosmoline in the white, butt uncut. The chamber was stamped 30-06 anf the side of barrel marked 7.65 in the normal place. The bore was pristine and the chamber smooth and looked nicely crowned. $100+ taxes !
Of course I bought the ugly old thing as the 1909 action was probably the smoothest of all 98 Mauser actions and this pristine one is no exception! The bolt appears to be originally turned down and the barrel is 22+ " so it was some sort of short rifle. Has a beautiful Argie crest.
I brought back my 30-06 go, no go guages and it seem very good. I have to wait another week but in the few days since it's purchase rather than just robbing the action for still another custom project I think I may "sight it in" and use it as a service truck gun as it is cut for stripper clips and springfield type seem to work well in it!Being the bore is prolly .311 rather than .308 doesn't matter with those battle sights! Pictures after I clean it after the wait!

Don't worry about the .311", slug the bore, size as required and shoot cast boolits in it.

I have a MN that slugs at .314", I shoot .316" heavy cast boolits in it at around 2100 fps and the accuracy is great

Damn, you made a good score! My favorite Mauser action. I got a 1909 Argentine re-barreled to 6mm Remington from my father when I was 12. My first centerfire rifle

Nearly stole that sucker! I have an '09 (also got it way bubbed) that I made into a 25-06 with a 26" Shillin (sp?) barrel. It is an absolute wonder!

Here ya go, I think it only needs a good sling to be near perfect for what I want it for, a rifle for this pick up !! I filed the rear sight square and moved it over to put 220 grain 30-06 ammo on at 100 yards. It shot 3" groups at the best with my old but careful eyes. BTW I stoned the trigger down to a really clean 4 pounds!;)

Hornady makes a 150 grain .312 bullet that I use in my sporterized 7.65. It shoots really good. If you slug your gun and it's the original bore, load up some Hornady 150 .312s and see how they shoot. You'd just have to get an expander from a 7.65 die set or order it from the maker of your .30-06 die.
