Due to me going back to college soon I wanted to get the last two project rifles done while I could still afford to do so, this is the first. This one, I took on a bigger challenge than the last, building it from scratch. I traded for an Argentine 1909 Mauser action and bottom metal (hinged floorplate + a inside the bow release I added) In terms of military Mauser actions the 1909 and the CZ VZ24 are considered cream of the crop. Stock is figured walnut, nice classic shape, I shaved half a tree off of the blank to get it trim like I like my stocks. I fit and shaped my first ebony forearm tip, and added a Silvers London recoil pad, a nod to the classics of yesteryear, though in the pics below the plugs aren't installed yet. Stock wise, I've only got one coat of finish on so far , still have to get the checkering done.
The bolt handle is in a teardrop shape without any sweep (straight up and down). Barrel is by Douglass in a little thicker profile than most, caliber is 30-06, in all my years and guns never owned a singe '06. Nice irons are in order with Warne quick detach rings. Still haven't made my mind up on the engraving or metal finish.
I'm leaning towards having the trigger guard & floor plate, bolt shroud, and scope rings color case hardened. Screws engraved. Your thoughts are welcome

Wow that wood is simply awesome! Look forward to seeing the completed rifle, especially with the color case hardened parts.

NICE! I've made a 25-06 on an Argentine 1909 that is a wonderful shooter. It has a 26" Shilen barrel. That action was drilled and tapped when I got it, had the bolt forged and an aftermarket safety.

I have a couple of .35 Whelen's made on VZ24 actions that work well too.

Beautiful! You obviously know how to stock a rifle properly, something I was never able to master. I had an Argentine Mauser once. A 1909. Is is at the top of my list of rifles I regret having sold.

Found a nice set of irons for the rifle today, steel construction, nice classic shape. Just have to round up a hood for the front now.
