I'm sure .45 will win on popularity alone, but I was trying to think of more calibers to make these poll topics about and thought for revolvers a rimless head to head would be interesting.

So, the plot here is you've decided you want a bigger bore revolver that shoots a semi auto caliber. Either you just want the accuracy of a single action or you want to play with moon clips, whatever the reason you woke up this morning and got to get yourself a new gun and mama always said you'd be a choosin' one, so between 10mm or .45 revolver, what will you choose?

10...again. I'd like to get a 6" 610, or a 6 1/2" Ruger Redhawk.

10mm. Preferably a S&W 610, 4" and a shoebox full of good moon clips.
Excellent choice! I have a 4" 610-2 that is used for woods carry and reload testing, but would prefer a 6" barrel. The 610 can handle the really hot stuff. The semi-autos get nothing but neutered factory ammo.

45acp. cheaper, more available ammo. probably a lower recoil impulse (actually a guess as ive never touched any 10mm handgun). reloading isn’t an option. i will never in my remaining years on earth venture alone into brown bear turf.

The best thing about a revolver in my opinion is the range of ammo one can use. .357 uses .38 Spl, 44 mag uses 44 Spl. I would be extending that for thought where a 45 Colt with a conversion cylinder or a 10MM that shoots .40 SW.

Probably the 45 for me…but both are interesting.

Top left was built in 1918. A similar one got me interested in revolvers nearly 6 decades ago. The bottom left is a modern version of that Model 1917 and was built in 2008. I have a few from in between those two extremes, including ones with adjustable sights.

For me, the 45 ACP revolver satisfies all my handgun needs. Not saying a 10mm would not be fun, just not a desire I wish to pursue.

Building on that thought.

My modern ACP revolvers easily handle the 45 ACP, 45 GAP, and 45 Super. A nice range of ammunition.

Big .45 fan here and have carried one for years. As of late I am headed down the 10mm rabbit hole. I have 2 now, Sig XTen and an old school S&W 1066. Curently looking at different 10mm 1911s for my next.

The answer to this one, is clearly both.

A 625 is the fastest reloading most fun revolver I own. Moonclips rule and the 625 is the monarch of moonclip fed revolvers. It's hard to find a better combination.

A Ruger GP 100 is the perfect size for the 10mm. I really wish S&W would do an L-Frame in 10mm.

The 610 is wonderful and can be reamed to 10mm Magnum for near 41Mag performance if someone has the desire for more power. You can do the same with the 10 mm Redhawk though it's a bit over built for that combination even when reamed to 10mm Magnum.

Moonclips rule and both cartridges work well on moonclips.

Really a tough call for me between 45acp and 10mm. I think 45acp is a great revolver round and own one of the Brazilian contract Smiths and an Uberti with the 45 Colt and 45 acp cylinders. But shooting 10mm and 40S&W in the GP100 is neat too.

I like revolvers, I like Smith and Wesson, I like "N" frames and I like the 10mm Auto cartridge so, for me, it was an easy decision; a S&W 610 (although an "L" frame would be a close 2nd choice)

Just posted this in another thread, but I'll let this picture answer the question.

45 acp is my favorite caliber, and you can load a wide range of projectiles with a wide range of power, especially when using a revolver.

I'm not anti 10mm though, it would be a good choice as well.
If Smith made an L frame 10mm it would be tough to resist.

The one thing the 10mm has in a revolver over .45 is it can be used in L sized frames while all .45's tend to get stuck in N frame sizes.

I would pay good money for an L-frame in 40 S&W with a 4 inch barrel (and I've sworn off new S&Ws). Most 10mm is loaded to 40 performance levels and Moon clips for the shorter cartridge would feed better.

I have a thing about shooting guns properly chambered for the cartridge being used. I don't like shooting 38 Specials in 357s or 44 Specials in 44 Mags either.

10mm or 45 ACP in a single action revolver misses the biggest and best reason to chamber a revolver in a rimless cartridges. Moonclips!!!

45ACP/10mm in a single action revolver is like lowering your truck and running low profile tires on it. May look cool but not that useful.
