Hi all,

I was reading an article about 10mm and it mentioned the original 'high test' loads that were made when the round was introduced. I am guessing most of the data out there for reloading doesn't compare to the original specs. But that got me curious as to what the original 10mm load was?

The original loading from Norma was a 200 grain jacketed bullet at an honest 1,200 fps. That can still be acheived, but approach with caution and use new brass.

Hope this helps.

I still have some of the original Norma ammo. I fired one magazine of it in my then-newer (broken-in) SA Omega / 6" ported. The Peters Stahl top end has a slow unlock time; it was awesome--and the extractions were slightly sticky.

Over on handloads.com there is a thread about some new handloads--now typically running the 180 bullets, IIRC. The results say the load is overmax, but the shooter is still feeling his way around 10mm and reports no undue pressure signs--yet.

That's why primer reading is a bit like reating goat entrails: If the same WLP I use in a normal max (call it 20,000) 45ACP round is also used in a max (call it 36,000) 10mm round, which primer will look overpressure?

Cool. thanks.

I'll probably stick to my handloads for 10mm.

165gr Speer GDHP over 11.2gr AA#7 1177fps according to speer #14 manual
180gr Ranier plated 180's over 10.3 AA#7 (around 1100? Accurate say 9.9gr gives 1051fps, 11gr gives 1195fps)

I have some Titegroup that I may try in my next batch as well....

I get 1200 with a 200XTP and max load of AA9, but that's in a 6.5" revolver. In a 5" I can only come up with a little over 1100.

Attaining 1,200 fps in my 6.5" Model 610 is easy. It's getting near that in my 4.5" Witnesses that's hard.......... I won't even try in my Compact 10mm!
