About a month ago, my dad bought a used 11-87 Premier Trap for me to use this year as a sort of early graduation present. I enjoy shooting with and the gun has worked great. He got a pretty good deal on it from a guy he works with who deals in a lot of hand guns and other firearms.

The question I have is about the gas cylinder collar. It rattles inside the forearm, and it looks like it should sit in place somewhere. My dad printed off Remington's exploded diagram, and it looks like it should just fit over the magazine tube, but the collar has to be inside the forearm in order for the forearm to fit back on.

In my opinion (and limited actual experience with gas guns in general), it doesn't seem like it needs to be there, and the parts diagram even says that it isn't used on the Super Magnum model. Can I take the collar off, or will this mess with the gun's operation? Thanks for all your help!
