Used up all my 115gr. FMJ, so an now using Montana Gold 124gr CMJ. I know Blue Dot is not the best powder for 9mm, but I have some and want to use it up. When I look for data on 124gr and Blue Dot, the figures are all over the map!. Even Alliant had basically the same load for 115gr FMJ and 124gr FMJ. I thought the heavier the bullet, the less powder. I have used 7.8gr of BD under a 115gr FMJ bullet and got good results. Thought about starting at 7.0 and working up for the 124gr. Other "recipes" I have seen have loads as low as 5.8 for the 124gr FMJ, although not from manufacturers. Plan on getting a Chrono, but that will have to wait until the new year. Suggestions?

That's probably because Blue Dot is so slow burning and bulky, they can't get any more in a 9mm case and still have room for the bullet.

According to Lyman #49:
7.6 Blue Dot is a MAX load & a compressed charge with a 115 grain Hornady XTP.

7.1 is a MAX load & a compressed charge with a Sierra 125 JHP.

I save my Blue Dot for 147gr 9mm loads. The heavier bullets can take advantage of the slower powder. If you don't have any 147's, get some. You might be pleasantly surprised. All my 9's really like them including two Lugers.
