I am considering adding another rifle. Thought about the 17 Remington. Any thoughts?

We build a lot of rifles and handguns both in .17 Remington as it still seems to be a pretty popular round. It has a good trajectory out to 300 yards and has more than prairie dog accuracy out to that distance and beyond as long as there is very little to NO wind blowing. Also, with riccochets being few and far between with these light and frangible bullets, it also makes an excellent round for the more populated areas...

A lot of guys that shoot coyotes and other critters for fur like the .17 Remington because it can easily be loaded to produce entrance wounds only without exiting and teasring up hides. Also, a lot of guys in Texas use the .17 Remington for turkeys as well as javelina...

All in all though, the .17 Remington is an excellent round with factory loaded ammunition exceeding 4,000 fps. and with very mild recoil....

I have a .17HMR and love it (I know - different cartridge, but same caliber). It is a blast to shoot. I think .17 Remington would be just as fun....maybe more?

Only warning though, it is a pain to clean that little tiny bore.

+1 on the pain in the neck to clean. However, I think the .17 is one of my all time favorites too. I have a Ruger Single Six and a Taurus pump both in HMR and they are alot of fun. 17 Remington looks to me like a fantastic choice.

I would do the remmy fireball, before the 17 remington. the new 17 fireball, is much easier on bbls, matter of fact, most guys who have been shooting the 17m4 for years, say that it is not overbore at all, and is a perfect cartridge for the bullet, and good for varmints out to 400 yds.
that being said, the 17mach2 rimfire is my fave round right now, I can't even pick up a centerfire anymore, I am so obsessed with it...

Rangerruck, what is the velocity for the 17 Fireball as compared to the Remington? Any favorite bullets or powders?

not myself, but i have a friend of mine that has been shooting a cooper in mach4 for 20 years now. he says that even when you load them hot, they still arent near the bbl burner of a 17 remmy. He aslo had I think two diff bullets and loads that were over 4000fps. I may see him again, next weekend, I'll ask him what they are, if I do. I think though, he said his favorite load, was the heaviest bullet , loaded to about 36 to 3700 fps, which he would get supreme accuracy.
