.17HMR or .17HM2 autoloading rifles?

i think remington makes an autoloader rifle for 17hmr, but i heard it's not all that... just stick to a bolt action...

You can convert a (of course!) 10/22 to either, but I know nothing about the reliability or performance.

The 17HMR IMO is right on the edge of what a blowback semiauto action can handle.

Remington has dropped it, Magnum Research has a recall, Ruger never touched it.

Some 17HMRs work fine, but others blow up. Many blame it on cleaning, but while a dirty chamber might cause problems, many have blown up with pristine chambers. Besides any rifle that will blow up if you don't clean it with every box of ammo is doomed.

I would strongly recommend a bolt action.

sure, the remmy made a 17 hmr, and you can now tune them to be quite nice, magnum research, magtech excell arms, and volquartzen all make them as well.
you can convert a ruger 10.22 to do the 17mach2. the best of the bunch is the volquartzen; never heard of a one blowing up, which either of the 17's is liable to do. For the best in a ruger conversion, go check out skeeter over on rimfirecentral.com.
for the best factory 17mach 2, check out a Thompson/center rifle. Very nice.
