Is there a trick to getting the barrel wedge back into an 1851 Navy Uberti revolver?

I took apart and cleaned one I intend to buy from a friend, but now I cant seem to get the slots lined up to get it back together properly, any suggestions?

Unfortunately this one he got used, so I don't have access to a manual.

I have two Uberti Colts. In each, the wedge will not go straight in. I put the wedge in at the angle it wants to go in, then force it in and back with pressure. Sometimes I give the wedge a little whack to get it started. Both of these Ubertis have a tight barrel/frame connection due to the way the wedge has to be forced in. It's a good thing.

Pretty normal symptom

Tamren on the Uberti 51's . It's not wrong , its just them . My Pietta 61 is the same way , but my 51 Piettas don't do that . One of my Uberti Dragoons does that , one does not . My London 51 Uberti does it sligthly too . Italy ! :banghead:

Jaeger

PS... tighten or loosen the wedge retaining screw in or out to accept the wedge tip into the slot helps this also on assembly . That way your not dealing with two issues at one time when your getting the wedge back in.

Often the spring tip doesn't want to pass under the screw head, or even into the slot opening,, so as mentioned, loosen, or even remove the screw until you get the wedge started into the slot.
