Don't know enough about these. I know this gun has been in my dads house for at least 50 years. Is it the real deal? Barrel may have been replaced as the parkerized finish looks inconsistent with the rest of the gun

Your Springfield Model 1898 Saddle Ring Carbine looks to be in fine shape overall. The stock appears to be from an earlier Model 1896. The barrel should be blued but it's possible that it may have some light surface rust on it from long term storage. Take care if you go to disassemble the gun as I have found the upper handguard is somewhat thin near the receiver and may have become dried out and brittle. It can crack or splinter if removed. Everything else on it looks great, especially with the bolt assembly (should be in the white as they weren't blued), and the inspector's cartouches are nice and pronounced.

Congrats on a nifty Krag Jorgensen carbine!

Do you have a better picture of the front sight?
The stock looks good but may have been refinished.
I'm looking for a Carbine myself. It's hard to find originals. There are a lot of Sporters out there.

I think you have a correct Carbine. From what I'm reading the "C" would be stamped on the left side of the blade if it's visible. The blade could have been changed to calibrate for the elevation. It seems like Springfield made a lot changes to the front and rear sights on these guns.
Just FYI - I'm using the Kindle version of the collectors guide. It's on Amazon for $9.99

I found a little more history on the Model 1898 Carbine. Overall some 63,116 Carbines were built with the Model 1898 having the fewest produced, some 5,000, before they introduced the Model 1899. Most notable changes with this last version were it no longer had the saddle ring and the forend was 2" longer than on previous models.
