Texas boy on loan to the USN
Ok history buffs, I’m always seeing posts of guys who know beaucoup details about M1’s, 1903’s, and the like. Can anyone give me any details about my 1905 model Bayonet? It is the 16” model, with the letters “RIA” (Rock Island Arsenal I assume…) over an ordinance flaming bomb over the year 1909. It has the S/N 155277 on the other side under the expected “US”. I would be curious about any production info, as well as how the other bayonets in that production run were finished. (ie. Parkerized blade, blue painted handle, etc.)

Thanks for looking guys!!!!

I want to say the flaming bomb was Eddystone, but let me get back to you after some research...

John,

The 'flaming bomb' is the US Ordinance mark used on all early US arms.

ET1ss Phil McCrackin,

To my knowledge none of the RIA bayonets were parked. Any park would have occured after WWI was completed and long after RIA finished their run of bayonets. The original production was blued. Also, none of the originals would have had painted grips. The only thing you'll see out of the original RIAs would be chrome plating for parade purposes.

Yeah, I just didn't have a chance to come back after I found that...busy day. :)
