Sorry if there is already a thread on this one, but I'd like some info on S&W's 1911A1 .45 offerings. I have a bid on one over on Gunbroker and -- despite about an hour of searching THR -- I can't find many reviews. I'll take facts, rumors, innuendo, anything. But save the Smith-bashing; I love their products and have made peace with their 1950s-style customer service department.

Are they made here? Smith says they are, and the guy I talked to mentioned Chip McCormick (sp?) parts, but that can mean anything. How much plastic? How much MIM? Any problems with the external extractor?

Oh, and BTW, if anyone wants one for $605, plus shipping, PLEASE go outbid me! I bid on it in a moment of late-night madness, and now I'm torn about winning it. If I do, I'll have to take out a loan to pay for it...

But then again, there's a Government Model-sized hole in my arsenal that's crying out to be filled...

No worries on the Smith! They build very accurate, good fitting, nicely finished 1911s:) And if you steal it for $600ish, your doing good!

No plastic
EE works flawless
Mim is really not an issue

I like em'

if that means anything.:) I have been lusting after one of their guns for quite some time now, but with 5 1911's already, I gotta let the money catch up with the wants.
