A local shop has a 1908 mauser in very good to excellent condition. The #'s all match and the serial # is below 400.The wood is excellent and the bluing which on part of the receiver appears to be a light green color is very good to excellent. The bore needs cleaning but the rifling looks like new.Any idea what this gun would be worth? Is around 400.00 too much?It has a tag saying it's an 8mm,but i thought these were 7mm-is it possible it's a 8mm?Sorry for all the dumb questions, but I know nothing about these rifles, but this one is in such good condition it's awfully tempting.

Unless it's been rebarreled it's a 7mm.
Gun shops get things wrong fairly often.

IF this Brazilian is one made by DWM, and is in decent shape, this would be an "OK" deal, verging slightly on the too high side.

The DWM 1908 is the second finest quality military bolt rifle ever built, the first being the 1909 Argentine, also built by DWM.

These are great Mauser rifles, with quality and finish that puts everything that came after to shame.

Virtually EVERY part will have the serial number, or the last two digits of the number.

Finish INSIDE is better than most quality firearms have OUTSIDE.

Assuming it's in good shape, the price is approaching the neighborhood of what it's actually worth. I have two of the Chilean Ludwig Lowe 1895's rebarreled to 308 and a Brazilian Steyr in 7x57. I'd say if it's not obviously beat up, cave to temptation.
