I'm working up a load for a 1911. One powder charge was hitting 1" high at 10 yards. The other was 2".
Hypothetically. What would the expected POI be at 25 and 50 yards?
Once I'm done I'll test at distance. But I'm curious what I should expect.

Just a guess but I’d say about 3” high. Zeroing my target loads at 10 yards puts me a little low of hitting the center of a 25 yard bullseye target. That would be 2.25” high from a 6 o’clock hold. I figure you’ll be a little higher than that in the same velocity range ~800 fps give or take. That’s with factory or slide mounted sights. Red dots would likely be higher.

I forgot. It is factory sights.
I'm guessing velocities at 750 and 800.
It's a 255 bullet.
I just didn't want to go to 25 yards and be shooting over the target.
When I get settled on a load. I'll buy the correct front sight to get elevation.

I don’t have a 45 yet but my 22 and 357 target guns are close to center if a 5.5” target at 25 yards with a 6 o’clock hold. Velocity runs about 1000 fps for the 22 and 750-800 for the wadcutter target loads.

My 22 and 9mm with red dots zeroed for 25 yards are about 1.5” low at 10 yards, as best I can tell.

In any case, I think you’ll be on paper, which for the targets I use is a 12” square. I too hope to work up loads for a 1911 soon, but a 1911 is required first. Been looking a while but haven’t found one in my price range.

My wife's is a Para 1911 expert stainless 5".
My only complaint is the trigger is about 5 pounds.

If only hand gun shooting was that precise. If you are shooting offhand, your flinch, and your grip strength will move the bullet up and down a surprising amount. Just shoot the thing at distance and see what happens. You might find, at 50 yards, you are shooting two feet low, and it has nothing to do with the sights.

Well, since we're guessing, I'll venture a guess also. I'm guessing about 3" high at both 25 and 50 yards for the 750 fps load (1" high at 10 yards) and for the 800 fps load (2" high) I'm guessing 5.5" high at 25 yards and about 8.5" high at 50 yards.

These are just guesstimates since you're guessing at the velocities and we're assuming you aren't causing the firearm to hit high.

Let us know what you find out.
