Hi guys, I am in the market for a new barrel for my 45 ACP 1911 Springfield. Kart has an easy fit barrel kit that comes with a prefitted bushing, link, and pin. I read on a website that there is a taper at the muzzle end of the chamber that needs to be reamed out. Several other articles on the same barrel make no mention of chamber reaming? I have hand tools and prefer a barrel that I have to hand fit but I don’t have a finish reamer. Your opinions and advice would be appreciated.

I believe the Kart barrel is chambered for best accuracy with a 230 grain FNJ-RN bullet.
As in GI issue ball or match ammo seated 1.265" - 1.271' OAL.

If you want to shoot Semi-Wadcutter mid-range match, or many of todays truncated cone JHP SD loads?

It will probably need the chamber leade lengthened with a throating reamer for more taper added to better fit those types of bullets.

Also, be aware that a 'pre-fitted bushing & link' will be loose in some guns.
'Goldie Locks Just Right' in some guns.
And need to be fitted in still other guns.

However, the Kart instructions should allow you to do it if you can follow instructions to the letter.

Gone are the days when all 1911's were mil-spec Colts and other GI manufactures that passed all the mil-spec gages.

Thanks Rcmodel, for your advice it is appreciated. I ordered a Kart barrel kit from Brownells today. I have Jerry Kuhnhausen 1911 shop manual and there are some good you tube videos on fitting a 1911 barrel. I will let you know how it turns out.

Any pre chambered barrel is a compromise that might work and might not depending on how much has to be removed from the barrel hood to get it to fit the slide. Be prepared to at least touch up the chamber to get the leade correct if not actually deepen the chamber. It's the nature of the 1911.
