Do any of you carry a full size 1911 IWB as your concealed carry weapon?
What kind of problems do you encounter, if any. I've got a couple of 1 1/4" gun belts that I've used with large semi autos, both IWB and OWB. They usually start out fine, but after walking around for a while, my britches start to go south.
I wonder if going to a 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" belt would improve my situation?

Thanks for comments....I think.

Before you drop $50.00+ on a new belt, try these for $12.00:

I've been using a pair of these for almost a month, and they definitely help. They clip to your belt very easily, and stay well-hidden under most of my button-down CCW shirts. The adjusting buckles bulge a little under my T-shirts, but so does my gut. ;) I may wind up having a seamstress or a local rock-climbing shop cut off the buckles and sew Velcro on the shoulder straps for adjusting the length, instead.

+1 on the Perry suspenders. I've been using them for a while now myself, and they do a great job. I had about given up on suspenders until I found these. Even with a full sized Smith and Wesson 39, or a Springfield XD-9 on my belt, my pants stay up.

ezypikns, we need more information. What type of IWB holster are you using now?

My usual carry is a five-inch 1911 on either a 1.25" or 1.50" belt. I have found that belt width is not the issue; it is the construction of the belt. The construction of many belts allows them to sag or fold over, causing everything to "go south". For CCW, belt rigidity is very important.

I like the double thickness belts from Kramer, Sparks, and Rafter S.

I carry a 5" with no noticeable difference than my 3". I use a good holster(Brommeland Max Con V's) Gary Brommeland has tailored the design of each size holster to accomodate the peculiarities of each size. www.brommelandgunleather.com I also use a good belt and Perry Suspenders www.perrysuspenders.com that I bought on the recommendation of a brother Forum member. They are GREAT and solved the severe Southbound problem that I had!!! Their special attachment technique is wonderful. If you have the suspenders under other clothing - you don't have to undress to drop your britches

A good holster that distributes the weight of the handgun and a sold 1.5 inch belt will work wonders. I recommend a Milt Sparks VMII and a Sparks Belt. They both are working wonders for me and I am so glad that I invested the money in a good custom carry rig.

Kor...Do you think the plastic clips will fit on a 1.5" wide heavy leather (Rafter S) concealed carry type belt? In the pics, the clips look kinda small...like for standard thickness and dress/casual non-gunbelts.

Thanks for any info you can offer...

southbound pants syndrome eliminator

Not what the original post was "exactly about"...but, this is the best option I've found to eliminate the pants from heading towards the ankles.

Hang it high and from the shoulder....

If I carry my 5" 1911 (all steel), then I carry it in a Galco Jackass Shoulder rig. But - I find shoulder carry very inconvenient, so the 5" doesn't get carried all that often. Instead, I carry a 3" aluminum framed 1911 on my belt & don't really have a problem with my pants going south as long as the belt (a 1¼" Broomeland, made in the early 90's) is pulled tight.

C&L, I just checked my standard set of Perry Suspenders on my 1.5" double-thick Mitch Rosen gunbelt(which is the thickest gunbelt I've seen personally) - the clips fit perfectly. They're molded plastic(probably Zytel or something), and they have enough "spring" and "memory" to clip on the belt easily and hold securely without deforming. The clips don't wrap around the belt or clamp on from above, they slide onto the belt from below to support it and keep things from sagging.

It's the stiffness of the belt that does the trick. I like a good saddle-leather belt about 1 3/4" wide. I carry a full-size M1911 in a holster of my own design. The holster has high leather backing that distributes the pressure of the gun over a wide area of the body -- which helps take the load off the belt.

It also protects the gun from body moisture and acids (and the skin from chaffing from the gun) and has a button or cam that positively engages the safety lever.

Talk about dumb......

that's me. I always wear suspenders when carrying a S&W 'N' frame while deer hunting. A pair of suspenders over a t-shirt and under an untucked camp shirt or Hawaiian shirt should be just the ticket for carrying anything I own. Thanks to all for givng me a much needed whack to the side of the head to jog my memory.
