1911 magazines

If we're talking Government/full size 7 rounders, my favorite are the Wilson 7 rounders, the 47 (not the 8 round 47D, which is a good mag, but really the weakest mag in Wilson's line-up)

Colt hasn't made magazines in decades. They've been contracted through a variety of suppliers over the years. You never really know what you're going to get when you order a Colt mag (not counting all the fakes that are out there).

I know that but still with all of the factory Colt magazines I have bought over the years, I have yet to have one that gave me any problems.

My experience is with 9mm, but I would guess similar advice would hold for .45. I really like the Brownell’s store brand mags. They are made by a major producer. No malfunctions with any of the four I bought for $99/free shipping.

I use the same magazines in my Ruger SR1911 in 9mm so far I have had no issues with them either I was thinking about getting them but dont want to
get them mixed up

I only use CMI Gi mags, or Metalforms that have been hammered to work like GI mags. finally got sick of the extractor behind the rim jam exclusive to 1911's. Unless your shooting something weird, these are the best. Mine work with hollowpoint, and wadcutters better than Hybrid or Wadcutter mags. Dimpled followers are good, and its good to remember a weak recoil spring can cause double feeds too.

That is the gun I use them in too. Just mark the different mags with a white paint marker to identify the caliber.

It is pretty easy to tell the difference between a 9mm 1911 mag and a .45 ACP 1911 mag without having to mark them.

Edit to add: Since you commented you like the Brownell's mags, note the difference in the tubes.

Conversely, I'm always amazed at the Glock folks that have a G19 and a G23 or a G17 and a G22, or a G22 with a 9mm conversion barrel as those mags all look the same. I suspect those guys must need to do something to make sure they aren't sticking the wrong caliber in the wrong gun.

Would be nice to know what 1911 your mags are working well with. Each pistol can vary so to have some background helps with some context. The Wilson 47 and D's have run well in my SA and Sig. I have a variety of others without complaints. Even some gun show 4 for $20, 7 round mags with the convex dimpled follower. Bought them for photo prop use then decided to try them. Was expecting to get some malfunction practice but they didn't. LOL.

I have Kimber, Colt, Mec Gar, Wilson 47D, and Wilson ETM magazines. All function equally well. The ETM's that I have (12), to me anyway, are the best quality of all those I have listed. And the ETM's cost the most.
