I'm looking for a 1911 in the $600-$800 range. I can spend more but want to allocate some money for ammo since I do not have any .45 put back. So far I am interested in the Sig Nitron and the Para Expert / LTC models. The Sig 'Tac Pack' is around $750 at Bud's and I'm gonna be there some time later this week. Anyone else have a suggestion or some input? The only caveat I have is that ironically I do not care for Colt models at all and would like to stick to north american - european manufacture.

Sig is making a good 1911 style pistol you might also look a Springfield Armory. I've always had good shooters from them and good customer service.

Cheers,

ts

I'm in the exact same boat as you, shopping for a 1911 in that price range.

I looked at quite a few 1911's this weekend. I came away really impressed with Sig. The only reservations I have with the Sig is their slightly non-traditonal take on the 1911. The quality seemed excellent, however.

You can pick up a Kimber Custom II for under $800 if you shop around. They also seem to be nicely finished, tightly fitted guns.

Have you given the Ruger any thought? Sounds like they are selling for $650-ish whenever somebody happens to find one at a shop. Mostly positive reviews so far. I looked at one of those this weekend as well, nice pistol.

I've gotten the chance to shoot a Sig XO at the range when I was trying out all kinds of stuff before I knew what I wanted... I was -very- close to buying it... it was super accurate and seemed very well made, despite it being a range beater that has probably seen 20k+ rounds(it's been there for a few years now said the person behind the counter).

I ended up getting a Colt because of the 100 year anniversary thing, but I can foresee a Sig 1911 in my future because it really impressed me, and the price is right too.

I went shopping around and got some price quotes. Seems like all of the Sig models were sold out at my local shops and their suppliers to. I can raincheck a Sig XO or Nitron for around 800. I'm gonna keep lookin.

Springfield Armory Mil-Specs are on Gunbroker for between $500 and $700. Great base level series 70 gun that you could easily customize later if you wanted to. If you simply must have the North American thing, Remingtons are within your range, and I have to admit, despite its unorthodox appearance, the Sigs do feel good in the hand....

Have you looked the Springfield Range Officer? I've had mine for about six months and really like the way it shoots.
