My Micro compact sits at 3 o'clock in a Ross M9-S. I gently reach up to check its lock status a couple of times and hour, most of the time by habit. I just purchased the pistol in November and have been carrying it since. What concerns me- 3 times since November I have reached down to find that it is unlocked. I am in no way new to 1911's and am very aware that the pistol will not AD on me. I carried a Goverment for years, switched to a commander and now, in my old age, even a commander feels like I'm carrying an infant on my hip. The safety positively locks and is rock solid- requiring effort to engage, but it's becoming unlocked somehow. I've tried to retrace my steps to see if there was a common action that's contributing to this, but I can't find any.
Has anyone else had this problem? I'm wondering if some type of thumb-break style holster will help..I just hate thumb-breaks.. one too many actions to clear leather for me.
I should mention that I help a buddy out in his firearms store for a few hours in the morning- not very physically demanding. I can't figure out how she's getting unlocked.

Any ideas?

Hiwdy Wastemore,

Sounds like a holster issue. There are a couple of thumbreak rigs that'll wipe the safety off. Can't remember wich ones they are. Maybe somebody knows
and will chime in. Meanwhile, try carrying around the house with the strap unsnapped...if you're using such a rig...and see if it happens again.

I too think that this is going to turn out to be a holster issue, especially if the holster holds the pistol close to your body, and doesn't shield the safety.

Perhaps you might consider changing to an old USGI safety lock (manual safety) with the small thumbpiece, which is less prone to get wiped off.

Besides which, it's machined from real steel...

Edited to add: I have seen holsters where a small leather block was sewed to the back to block the safety in the "on" position. Thus it couldn't be wiped off by body movement.

That is correct, the holster is a belt-slide..

Here's the thing- I cannot imagine how my body could be swiping this thing into the off position. It really requires effort to get her unlocked(which I like).
What holsters would you guys suggest that's fast and would privide a little extra protection?

Thanks for the responses.

Is the gun an ambi saftey? If so, it's not uncommon for the safety to get "wiped" off when getting up from sitting and rubbing against something.
