1978 S&W 29-2 vintage

Going to buy a like new S&W 29-2 4in 44 mag. Gun was manufactured in 1978. Is as new as new could be. Bluing 100%, Grips 100%. Very very light drag line on cylinder. Tight as a virgin on her wedding night.
Store wants $1500 cash. I think In todays market, that not a bad price. Anyone own one and shoot theirs ?
I figure it this way. Any gun on any given day is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, no more and no less. If you want the gun and are happy with the price then buy the gun and enjoy it.

My own Model 29 is a 29-5 which goes back maybe 30 years with me.

Somewhere I have the wood for it. I recall buying the gun for I think $250. Then at one point I sold the gun to a friend, for $300. Then I bought it back for $300 and that gun went back and forth several times and the last time I bought it back for the same $300 a week later that friend had a massive coronary. The back and forth had become a joke between us. Glad the gun came back. After he passed away his property became a feeding trough for his extended family. Hard to believe what I see Model 29 revolvers going for today.

I wont shoot over 240 grainers max'd on non endurance package Smiths.
180s on max WW296 are nasty blast, can knock that back a bit by going w 200grainers.
Still get faster erosion w the light bullets/ball powder.
But if you wear a barrel out, you've shot enough to justify the expense of a new bbl.
Topstrap line only goes so deep. No big deal IMHO.

All my 629s were -3 or older.
Avoid the heavies and should be fine. Broke my 629-1 trigger pivot w 300grainers, Smith fixed it pretty quickly.
Clean 629-2 or 3 around here is 1200-1300 in the shops.
And they don't last long.

Good investment? 20230419_084212.jpg Blue Book of Gun Values. 1982.
When i bought my 29-2 had to pay list price with an FFL & be on a waiting list. Resold 2 more 29s at $100 more then MSRP.

I have one about that age that I bought new sometime in the late 70's. I shoot mostly 250 grain Keith Type SWC's that I cast from wheelweights. I use mostly a mid rang load of Unique or sometimes 2400.
