1x scope suggestions for my Winchester 9422

Picher, I agree with you in what you say. I have such an arrangement on my Marlin 39A, and it works well. Unfortunately, the 9422 received is not drilled and tapped - and I would never ruin it by doing so. So I am not sure how I could put an aperture rear sight on it. Plus, I am looking for a low-cost, easy alternative to my iron sights. So that is why I am looking at a 1x scope.

You may be able to find a receiver sight that utilizes the top rear scope mount holes. JP

Good luck with your rifle/scope! All my rifles are scoped these days.

Received the Bushnell scope today. Will report back when get everything set up.

Mine has Burris .22 rings on it.
Proly end up w a Leupold 2.5x or 1-4x.
Small objective so I dont have to remove rear sight (and lose it).
As for 9422 iron sights, never have liked. And Ive had several and been shooting em off and on for a few decades.

MCB, good point on the red dots, and in fact that is where I am leaning right now, although I am not crazy about how a red dot looks on a lever action. But I shoot to hit the target, not to look good at the range.
I'm also considering the Williams receiver rear peep sight (model FP-GR), similar to what I have on my Marlin 39A. My concern with that is that the front sight bead on the 9422 is a bit large, so it's still not the greatest sight picture.
I received the Bushnell scope and while the scope was fine, it weighs 16 oz. It added enough weight to my 9422 to make it a bit too cumbersome for my purposes. My 9422 has a laminated stock, so it already has some weight. Plus, I find that a red dot gets me on target a bit easier and more accurately.
Strangely enough, my problem with the red dots are that they are made for Weaver or Picatinny bases, not .22 dovetails. I've ordered one of those dovetail-to-Weaver adapters from ebay and will see how it works out.

Prism are heavier and aint perfect.
Kind of a "tweener" deal.
I have run RDS in tube and reflex, Prism and low power variables.
Each has a plus and minus.

For a lever gun, due to stock design and handling qualities........if not wanting magnification.........

a shake n wake reflex would be my choice.

I have a PA cyclops new style.
It would not line up with zeroed back up irons.
It would zero fine, but did not line up.

My leupold RDS lined up perfect, dot on top of front sight.

So I put the PA prism on varmint rig. No irons.
Illumination why. Im thinking about getting the 3X though.
Maybe this yr cuz and I can finally get the high dollar caller to prove its worth.

Yeah right LOL

Hookeye - I'm open to your recommendations for a decent reflex site at an affordable price point, with a 2 MOA dot - Would like to stay at $125 or less. Let me know.

This is going on a .22 rifle that I use for fun/plinking, not survival or action shooting. For that purpose, is there any real advantage of a reflex vs. a red dot?

PS - I just mounted a Primary Arms red dot on my Ruger 10/22 - Haven't taken it to the range yet, but if it works, I might do the same on my lever gun.

I bought a Sightmark M Spec reflex. Think it was 115 bucks when I did.
Edit: just checked web, theyre 199 now YEESH
It has worked fine. It does not however have shake and wake.
And the dot is 3 moa IIRC.

Had one on a turkey gun, and bought a 2nd for my .22 pistol.
Id not call them perfect, but "good enough".
Being Chinese made.....yes, I'm looking to upgrade.
Crisp 2 moa dot preferred.

Wonder what the Leupold DPP is?

I had a Leupold RDS that was 1 moa and it worked great, but was big and bulky for what it was.
Enough that it went down the road (was used on rifle, mount was a brick as well).

Am not against going Aimpoint micro. But as little as I turkey hunt or squirrel hunt, it seems kinda silly.

I am not unhappy w my Sightmark reflex on hunting rigs.

You may find a tube style RDS easier to use across mult platforms (handgun and long gun).
Reflex takes some getting used to on a handgun.
Holosun makes one w a larger outter ring that shows which direction you need to go to find the dot (when dot centered ring doesn't show).
Think the low budget winner for tube style is the Sig Romeo 5.
IIRC its Chinese built.

If I was to scope a Contender and wanted tube style, I'd go large and get an Aimpoint PRO (or similar). Tried the Primary Arms clone and it worked great, made shooting the .35 rem offhand stoopid easy ( compared to an EER scope ).

The 1x Primary Arms Cyclops Prism is neat. Isn't perfect either. Im willing to buy another, the 3x version, to put on a semi auto coyote rifle.

Looking at a rib mount for the reflex on my turkey gun. That way I can swap my 870 supermag from goose (26" VR bbl) to turkey (23" VR bbl w reflex) back and forth.
Is on receiver mount currently.
