Does anyone have more than one of the same exact gun, & if so, why?i have a chance to buy another of the same rifle, same caliber,& its a real great price, otherwise it doesnt seem to make sense, other than its one i really like a lot.

yea, I have two of the same revolvers, obviously to carry one on each side

also have two of the same muzzle loaders, bought one for me and one for my dad to use for deer season.

It never hurts to have a backup for a favorite rifle, especially one that is no longer made.

As to the general question, it kind of depends on what "same" is. I once knew a gentleman who had a fairly large collection of Lugers, all "the same" to the average person, yet each different in some marking or feature. That kind of a collection is not uncommon at all. Of course to some folks, all handguns, or rifles, or shotguns "look the same" and they simply can't understand why anyone needs more than one. The same could be said about stamp collecting (little pieces of paper), coin collecting (they are all round), and many other objects.

Just like a old man told me one time. About a wife and a girlfriend you always need a spare because you never know when you will have a flat.

LOTS of multiples!

I have multiples of M-1 Garands, M-1917 Rifles, M-1 Carbines, SKSs, AR-15s, Camp-45 Carbines, FR-8 rifles, and lever-action rifles. I really need to get backup copies of my Beretta Carbine and my AK-47 clone. I don't think I'll bother getting a second Mini-30, and I may never get the spare swag I need to afford an M-1A.

Same for handguns. I have duplicates of most pistols and revolvers, but not all.

My original goal was to be able to pass at least least one of everything to each kid. Then the kids started having grandkids and i realized I couldn't afford to keep up. I'll prime the pump, but they'll have to buy their own.

I'm in the process of building a 2nd AR. Its furniture is not identical to the first, but since it uses the same caliber I consider it a variation and not a different rifle.

I am a collector, I have multiples of a lot of things, I tend to buy in bulk when the getting is good, then spend the rest of my life enjoying them. I did that with Enfields, US M1903's, US 1917's, Garands, M1 Carbines, Krags, Turk Mauser's, Japanese Arisakas, Carcanos, 45/70 Springfields, and lately Finn and Soviet Mosins. It's like eating potato chips, it's hard to stop at just one.

Two Mossberg 500's. One is an upland game bird gun and looks like a shotgun in the traditional sense, the other is a 'persuader' and has an 18 1/2" barrel.

My cousin and I are thinking of splitting a crate of Mosins. Price is pretty good and I love this rifle. I want to restore some and just save the others.

why not own two? keep two different loads for either like i do my savage 110 30-06. one for big game (moose and bear) and one for other stuff.

I have four No.4 SMLEs, just couldn't say no to a rifle that works that nice, wish I was half as well supplied with ammo for them. Two made in England the other two in West Branch.

I have several twins/triplets both rifle and pistol. Ya know the saying goes "One for the left hand one for the right hand and one for plan B".:D

Rifle
3 triplet
4 twins

Pistol
2 triplet (even a set of Hipoint 9MM different last digit on SN)
6 twins

Almost. Saw a Marlin model 60 in the paper the other day for $40 and called. They had already sold it of course. For that price why not have two? That's my luck though.

I own a farily small number of guns, but I own multiple copies of most of what I have.

I use my guns mostly for matches and classes. After factoring in travel, lodging, tuition, fees, etc., downtime for a busted gun gets really expensive :). Much better to run back to the range bag, grab the spare, and get right back on the line.

If one is good

two is better.:D
2 Savage VLP's in 204
2 Savage BVSS's in 223
4 more Savages BVSS in different calibers
2 heavy barreled Olympic AR-15's
2 Norinco 97's
2 Taurus PT 1911 duo-tones
2 Glock 23s
2 Ruger Vaquero's in 45 Colt
2 Rugers in 32 H&R
2 LCP's

I am into black powder revolvers, and I have several models of some individual types because they are copies of somewhat different originals ....
for instance, I have a Colt 1851 Navy with a squareback triggerguard and another with a round version both made by Uberti. I have a 1851 Uberti '51 "London" model which has blued steel triggerguard & backstrap, and a few Piettas: One has a silver plated TG and BS, another has fancy engraving and Micarta (faux ivory) grips. I have a couple different 1860 Armies; one with a standard engraved cylinder and another full fluted. A Third Pietta 1860 has a partial fluted cylinder (like on present day revolvers) which was a rare variation you had to special order from Colt back then.
And ... I could go on I suppose, but you get the point.
