Anybody else here like using a 20 gauge shotgun for deer hunting ? I use a old Remington "Sportsman" (3-shot), semi-auto with nothing but the original bead front sight that came on the gun. Gramp took deer with it in the 1940's and 50's; my dad used it for deer hunting in the 60's and 70's; now I occasionally use it. Normally, I tend to modify guns as I acquire them, but this gun shoots the Remington and Winchester slugs to point of aim perfectly as is. It has a lot of history behind it and I like it.

I use to hunt with an old geezer in central WI who exclusively used a 20 gauge Browing A5 with the standard sighting equipment and rifledslugs. He has probably killed more white tail deer in his lifetime with that gun than most hunters have ever seen.

Cut the barrel down to 20 inches on an old Stevens Model 620 in 20 gauge and sweated on a pair of Remington 700 sights . The most accurate slug gun I have ever owned or seen. I have used only 20 guage for deer now in over a decade.

the first deer I killed was with a Stevens single barrel 20ga, and a foster slug.

I have a nice little Mossberg with the 18 in barrel, that is fairly accurate with slugs. I keep meaning to buy a rifled barrel for it. I think I may just go ahead and do it.
