2011 ruger products

I don't know if that's "The next handgun I must own" like Ruger claims, but I'll probably check it out. It would be more comforting to have a 7+1 9mm rather than 6+1 .380 as my "everywhere, everytime" gun if it carries as invisibly as the P3AT.

I agree. While the hype was a bit over the top, I could see replacing my LCP with this. Ammo commonality is important to me and 9mm is my primary round. Not to mention, 9mm is cheaper than .380.

If I owned Ruger I would be a little embarassed that I kept copying Kel Tec products.

I'm actually pretty psyched about this. I've been looking for a good IWB piece. My current carry guns are an LCP and an M&P 40C, and I wind up carrying the LCP most of the time because the M&P 40C is just a tad too big to easily conceal in most of my outfits. That LC9 could fill that gap.

fwiw, there's a short review on the gunsamerica blog...

http://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/ruger-lc9/

there's a comparison image there with an lcp and an lc9 overlaid that demonstrates the size difference.

as for me, i'll check one out, for sure, but i'm sticking with my g26, thankyouverymuch.

It would have to be significantly better than the current offering from KelTec to get me to pony up $100 more for the same thing.

KelTec bashers aside, the company does a great job at a number of things, especially bringing more innovative firearms to the market instead of rebranding an AR/1911 like everyone else seems to be content to do. If Ruger wants to try their hand at improving over what KeltTec already does a great job at, then so be it. I have a P11 and the only complaints you'll hear from me about it are the sights were off a little from the factory and I think they could lighten the trigger by 2-3 pounds. That and firing 124gr +P ammo through it is a bit snappy. 100% reliable with hundreds of various rounds through it, 12 rounds from a reliable pistol that small and concealable, and well under $300 OTD.

I do like the sights in the LC9 compared to my P11, but I think the sights on the PF9 are just as good if not better. Both companies have phenomenal customer service, but the edge probably goes to Ruger in my experience. Either way, it seems like the guys who bash Ruger are many of the same snobs who bash KelTec so as far as I'm concerned Ruger is in good company.

I find it humorous that people get so up in arms because someone else makes a product that improves on an existing platform or idea.
I don't hear everyone whining that 5 million companies "copied" Colt with the 1911.

Exactly! Nobody squalls because USFA, Uberti and others copy the SAA or the several dozen makers that build 1911's. All of which, I might add, are to the original specs or close to them. Conversely, no parts interchange between the Ruger and KelTec. Not unlike all the polymer-framed pistols on the market, a trend begun by Glock. KelTec had no patents on the P3 so there's really nothing to complain about. Except that shooters tend to complain about every new offering under the sun.

How DARE they bring out a compact concealed carry gun that's not revolutionary or add to the 18,450 1911-variants already on the market! :p

I find it humorous that you think I am up in arms about it.

I like Ruger products, have an LCP and will likely buy this new gun. But I see no reason to think its an improvement over the Kel Tec PF9. I like the LCP, too, but it is no better gun than my P3AT.

Yea but those companies are not trying to pass 1911s and SAAs off as something previously unseen in the marketplace either. Ruger is trying to pass itself off as an innovator when it copies other people's innovations.

I didn't catch the whole story, but they're also releasing a concept scout rifle, a la Jeff Cooper, based on the M77. Bolt action, .308win, ghost ring sights and forward rail for scout scope.

I like Ruger, and I like the LCP, but I don't really see the point of the LC9. I'd love a LCP sized pistol in 9mm, but the LC9 is starting to get too big imo. It's actually taller than a Glock G26, and barely shorter. It's a little narrower though. IMO it's just not that much smaller than a G26 or similar which while I'm a big Ruger fan, I think the Glock is far superior.

The cool thing to me about the LCP is the size. It's easy to slip in a picket and carry. IMO the LC9 is going to be too big for me to comfortably do that.

Did you see the price tag i could buy two kel-tecs.......

Read my words, taurus copy!

Pretty sad how it comes down to me shouting and posting pictures. I wouldn't buy a mini 14 so why would i buy there garbage pistol? And with that price tag i could buy a real gun a M&P!

It's got nothing size-wise on the Kahr PM9, it's longer, taller, and heavier. It's cheaper, I guess...but it won't fit in a pocket(most can't put a PM9 in the pocket)...so I don't understand what void it is supposed to fill. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Copying is a gunmaking tradition. Look at the first polymer-framed pistol, the HK VP70, and then look at the first Glock 12 years later.

I was hoping Ruger would introduce the 11/22. :) Slim, attractive, accurate.

It gets me how people compare street prices to MSRP's and get bent outta shape about it. The MSRP on the Ruger is $443, while the KelTec is $377. Street prices will be $332 and $250 respectively. The Ruger will be a better gun so that figure makes the Ruger dirt cheap and a better value. Let's be real, KelTec is not an upper end firearms' manufacturer.

Read my words, taurus copy!
Not only does it look nothing like the Taurus but its MSRP is $40 less. I think I know which one I'd buy!

And with that price tag i could buy a real gun a M&P!
And you'll pay another $130 for it.

As usual, Ruger introduces new products and people will come out of the woodwork to complain about it. Even if they have to manufacture reasons to.

At least a 1911 would be interesting. I never get tired of 1911's...pocket pistols, now that's another story.

Christ guys, relax.
Ruger released a compact 9mm to cover that part of the market under the Ruger name. Sure they advertise that you "MUST HAVE THIS GUN ZOMGWTFBBQ" but that's any manufacturer's marketing strategy.

Also, if I remember correctly, American Rifleman did a test on all the pocket pistols on the market and Ruger led the way and completely left that Taurus in the dust.

Anyone ever seen a single action revolver before?

All fine guns, all made from an original design.

It's a gun guys, either buy it and shoot it, stick it in your holster and defend yourself with it, or go buy a Glock, 1911, or whatever pistol you feel you should trust your life with and continue on with your lives.
