Shot this buck 8:00 Saturday morning 10-21-2017 in NC. Used my Remington 700 Classic .35 Whelen. Hand load...200 grain Hornady Interlock Spire Point over 57.0 grains of IMR 4064.

180 pounds, 19" wide 8-pointer. In rut on scent of a a doe...head low to ground and in a trot.

No, that is not my dad or grandfather in the picture...that is 74 years of me posing.

That one was 200 if he was an ounce. Ron and his son grabbed a tractor to get him in the truck and it took everything I had to spin him toward the gambrel. Only taken 1 that body size myself in nearly 30 years of hunting but I gut 'em in the field to save weight. Honestly much of it winds up being fat put on for winter rather than meat.

The first deer I ever shot last year weighed around 200lbs.....Oklahoma whitetail. Acorn fed. *shrug*

Haven't tried to post pictures since Photo Bucket put the hammer on me. Thought I would try this one.

Wednesday morning about 9:30 AM he slipped out into an opening I had been watching since daylight.

I have been deer hunting for over 50 years and this is the first one I have ever taken with a 30-06. Go figure, I have killed a lot of deer with a lot of calibers and finally thought it was the '06's turn.

DSCF5012 (630x800).jpg DSCF5001 (800x466).jpg It took me a week of hunting and passing up a half dozen bucks, but Mr. Big Stuff finally showed up. 5:30 P.M. of the last day of muzzle loading he came in to check a scrape. At 25 yards I put a 250gr Barnes MZ on the point of his shoulder as he quartered to me. I knew that I had one lung but at that angle the shoulder kept the blood inside his chest and the bullet went into the punch so there was no exit wound. I looked until dark and then went back this morning. He had circled and was about 100 yards from my stand. I am and have been a firm believer in prayer for years. This is an answer to one of them.

Rifle opener starts this Saturday in Minnesota. I believe my limit is one doe or one buck this season. I'll have to double check in my little pamphlet. Your guys pictures are amazing. I haven't ever shot a 200 lbs deer. Im inviting myself over to your place Armored farmer.

I'm not sure if you really killed that deer. You're obviously not wearing a stitch of underarmor.

Ouch. That one smarted a little.

Seems like there could be some quid pro quo between you, Mn Fats, and Cocked & Locked. I think it might work out for all parties concerned.
