I’m really enjoying it. I ran out of time for load development and I have yet to get a bullet mold for it. Looking at something in the 320gn range.Love that big-bore Handi-Rifle
I recently bought a 45-70 Handi-Rifle for our new straight wall cartridges ruling from the IDNR.I’m really enjoying it. I ran out of time for load development and I have yet to get a bullet mold for it. Looking at something in the 320gn range.
Shot this gal with a 240gn xtp over 38gn of IMR 4198. Haven’t had the chance to shoot it over the chronograph yet but it should be moving around 1800-1900fps. I don’t have much desire to shoot anything heavier in this light single shot and for whitetail and pigs, there is no need. I was ringing an 8” steel offhand at 160yds with it the other day. I may sell off my 308win handi but I think this one is a keeper.
Very nice.I recently bought a 45-70 Handi-Rifle for our new straight wall cartridges ruling from the IDNR.
I am planning to strictly shoot home cast bullets in the sub 2000fps range. I am looking forward to working up a load.....but as of now it is unfired by me.
Vortex straight wall BDC 3-9x50 scope on board.
If it weren't for 5 days in Nov. following the main rut, I would not have killed a deer so far this season. Luckily, I have one more chance. I was invited on a western panhandle hunt the last weekend of gun season.
The prep is some of my favorite part. Thankfully since moving down south it seems there is always something to do since there is always a season for something open year round. Our deer season just closed yesterday and we have about 3 weeks left of small game before 20 days gap before our spring Turkey opens here. About to start patterning Turkey loads with a new extra full choke. Walked up on two big long beards checking traps yesterday! The wait is the worst. Been killing time preparing. Picked up some broadheads for bow season, some powder for muzzleloader season, and box of 3" Longbeard #6's while waiting for May turkey season.....Which can't get here soon enough!
Be well and safe hunting everyone!
