I am proud and thrilled to report that my 7yo granddaughter harvested her very first whitetail this morning in Illinois' Youth deer season!
She is a chip off the old block and my wife's "mini-me". She excels at whatever she does......
...Competition cheerleaders. Tumbling,. caught a pig at the county fair pig scramble (lol)...and now took a buck on opening morning of her very first deer hunt!
I'm not sure who was the happiest.....
Her or her daddy..(my son #1)!
We are harvesting and very busy today, but #1 son is nuts about hunting some tool the morning off and I'm glad he did.!
His little girl will never forget her first deer!
The deer had something wrong with his rack, one side was rather goofy looking but a good deer to cull.....and the first thing to pass by our elevated box blind on opening day of youth season.
She said "can I shoot it?"
#1 took a look at the rack and said "yep!".
We had seen that buck wandering around last season with an abnormal rack.

That deer probably had a tussle with a motor vehicle or farm equipment a couple of years ago. That's what usually causes racks like that.
Good for your granddaughter.
Mine didn't get her 1st deer until she was 9.

How did you get the gals to clean the deer? Both my wife and my kids go the other way.

I think the deer in my area may be becoming radicalized.
I was walking down a nearby block after dark the other day and this thing scared the crap out of me. LOL

I think I forgot to post any pictures of our Saskatchewan waterfowl hunt in this thread.
It was a 6 day marathon of hunting Geese and ducks about 3 hrs north of Saskatoon. There were two father/son duos. We had great hunts every day and limited out twice iirc.
It was awesome.

This year I tried the wax method for the pin feathers and it worked great. Converted.
